A spin-off series from #EIT ... I enjoyed the start of Ada's journey. She deserves her own series. And I LOVE her and Jay. He's a good fit for her and I'm looking forward to getting to read more about them in the next novel.
I need more!
I have so many questions! I love Jay and Ada & it's not fair that this books ends abruptly. However the very small glimpse at Perry & Dex was great but not enough to get my fix.

This book did it for me, definitely a good read. Shortly after I began reading I realized I had started reading this book years ago and never finished. I can't even remember why I didn't, but I'm glad I did finish it. Love this author's work.
First off I just want to say that in my opinion I think if you are thinking of reading the EIT books you should then you can read Veiled. It is stated that it is a standalone novel but I felt that there was a lot of main story lines mentioned from the EIT series that will spoil EIT for you. For me it was a great reminder of how great the EIT series was and now I want to re read the series. Anyway... on to my thoughts.
It was so so good to be back in the world of EIT, it was fun to catch up with Dex and Perry (oh how I have missed them). But it fell short for me. I am not really sure what I wanted this book to be. It wasn't amazing or perfect but it was fun. I think there is a lot more to the story and I hope another book is written.

Halle is back on form. [b:Love, in English|21899546|Love, in English (Love, in English, #1)|Karina Halle|https://d2arxad8u2l0g7.cloudfront.net/books/1397332210s/21899546.jpg|26633339] wasn't my thing, [b:Where Sea Meets Sky|22609201|Where Sea Meets Sky|Karina Halle|https://d2arxad8u2l0g7.cloudfront.net/books/1415756600s/22609201.jpg|42099243] was an early DNF, and even the Experiment in Terror series didn't quite hit the spot. But this EiT spin-off featuring Ada Palomino is all kinds of creepy goodness, perfect for old fans and new readers alike.
Seriously, this book is scary. Ada's story was far more terrifying to me than that of her sister, Perry. It uses a lot of traditional horror elements - the voice in the closet, the thing that's there and then isn't - but Halle crafts the tension perfectly, playing with the lines of dreams and reality until you're unsure what's a nightmare and what's really lurking in the darkness of Ada's bedroom.
I was pleasantly surprised to discover that [b:Veiled|17157701|Veiled (Ada Palomino, #1)|Karina Halle|https://d2arxad8u2l0g7.cloudfront.net/books/1469030061s/17157701.jpg|23580630] wasn't as romantic as I'd anticipated. It's being called a paranormal romance, but I'm inclined to call it "urban fantasy with a love story". Sure, there's the typical descriptions of male hotness, but it is excruciatingly slow burn (I mean this in a good way). No instalove - no insta anything, in fact - and a whole lot of ghostly plot to make this a book about more than young lovers.
There were many things I thought the author captured well. She remembers that Ada is a young woman grieving for her mother, and portrays that grief without melodrama. I also felt melancholy along with Ada when she discovers that an old friend is not what she thought - how difficult it must be to count on someone for so long and realise you never really knew each other that well at all.
I foresee fans of the usual New Adult romances coming into this book with certain expectations and not having them met. It's not typical of the genre, and actually does many great things that have nothing to do with romance and have everything to do with being a young woman with problems, heartache and, yes, a sex drive.
Also, it's funny.
If you find words like "twatwaffle" funny.
Which I do.
Creepy, sexy and really enjoyable.

As a devoted Experiment in Terror fan, it always felt like Ada had her own story to tell, and I have waited two years for the moment until Karina Halle felt inspiration to write Ada’s story. In the beginning, Veiled is like coming home and my book loving soul was filled with complete happiness to see beloved characters. While it is nice to see old friends, Veiled is in no way a retelling or continuation of EiT. Ada is own is her own character, with a new story to tell, and she is never overshadowed.
“You are Ada Palomino and your story is completely different. You are completely different.”
Ada is full of spunk and I adored her immensely. Even though she’s 18, she has an old soul and a maturity about her that really resonates. She has dealt with grief and sorrow. Her interactions are often full of sass, but there’s an underlying strength to her character. Ada is not afraid to face demons or any other creatures tossed her way. While Veiled has a certain “creepy” factor, it is in no way horror. I am proud to admit I read most of it during daylight hours.
“Sometimes the darkness is our friend.”
Jay is definitely intriguing, and I had endless theories about his character. Sadly, most were totally wrong, but it was an exciting ride nonetheless. He and Ada have this intense connection and their chemistry is definitely scorching. I tend to prefer dual points of view, but Jay’s attraction is his mystery. Seeing him only through Ada’s eyes was the best way to portray this storyline.
“I want to make you feel…”
While there is an ending, and this is technically a stand alone, I am optimistic Ada has more books in the future. There is still so much I want to know about her and Jay. Karina Halle continues to be the most versatile author I read. No matter what genre she writes next, it is always filled with strong characters and interesting storylines. This book can be read as a stand alone, and Halle does an excellent job detailing background information from EiT that is pertinent to this story. I encourage anyone who tends not to read PNR to give this one a try, and course PNR readers will love it.

A good start to a new series. I hope to read more about Ada and Jay because, damn, they were hot and formidable team. I would really like to see Ada come into her powers and become one of the many strong PNR women I love reading about because PNR and UF are where female characters really get a chance to shine and often outshine their male counterparts. 4 stars
