I was introduced to Liese's writing with her Bergman Brothers series and I’m taking my time reading these as I just adore them and don’t want to rush through them and after a few fantasy books back-to-back I knew that I needed a Romance book; why is being a mood reader hard at times! But this was exactly the book that I was after, Just the way that Liese writs her Characters is just magical and makes them jump off the page like no other writer out there.

After a disastrous meeting, Bea and Jamie know to stay clear from each other. That is until their friends decide to play with fate and set them up on a blind date. Annoyed with their friend’s pushiness, they decide to get the ultimate revenge. Fake date and then horribly break up to make everyone involved stop playing matchmakers. But as they work together and get to know each other more, feelings that they shouldn’t feel start to arise and complicate things.

This is a beautiful retelling of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing and its honestly a perfect retelling. It has everything in there, I really connected with Bea with her Autism and her feelings at time and saw some of myself in her as well as Jamie which is a trait I love in books. They were joyful, passionate and most importantly, real. Liese’s talent to make her characters so real and so extremely lovable is one of the factors that differentiates her and her work from other authors in the industry.

I love Liese’s passion and driver to help diversify the romance genre with her realistic takes on mental health subject and never being afraid to have characters have true and honest conversations.

I think that it’s time for Book 2 and to follow the adventure of the next Wilmot sister.

emotional

Two opposites fake date to fool and get back at their meddling matchmaking friends.

Bea is the messy, platypus-owning clothes, funny genitalia doodling artistic heroine we love to read about.

Jamie is a paediatrician which is the best match for his personality as we learn - he is attentive, respectful, and understanding - NO judgments. This is especially important to me as Bea is nervous and embarrassed about how people may take her neurodivergence. Taste textures, habits, sounds, feelings, social situations…

“I told you I’m weird, but it’s like the kind of weird that doesn’t have a home anywhere. It’s like the way I am isn’t enough of one thing & is too much of another. Sometimes I feel like I don’t belong anywhere & if I was only more of this or less of that, I would. Does that make sense?”
It dragged after the 50% mark and even though the third act break up was more understandable compared to others (despite being annoying per usual), I think this could have cut 100 pages and this would have been more enjoyable. I don’t think there was any further emotional connection or character development achieved personally.

Bea’s sister and Jamie’s best friend low-key sucked.

Their romance and dynamic kind of reminded me of Business Causal by BK Borison.

“That means a lot, that you told me.”
“It means a lot that you didn’t act like you see me differently now.”
He tucks a strand of hair behind my ear as the wind whips it across my face. “I don’t see you differently. I see you better.”

I have not read Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing which this is based on so no comment on that front.

Hey, this was really cute. MC’s 10/10. Sweet n spicy.
