This book was one of the most traumatic rollercoasters I've been on in a long while. It's enemies to lovers back to enemies and luckily back to lovers again. I highly recommend it if you love the idea of defying an arranged marriage to be with someone you love only to spend years trying to destroy that person and then be forced into an arranged marriage with that person. My heart still hurts just thinking about it but I think this book is a perfect example that marriage isn't the end of the work; you have to continue to make the choice every single to day to love the person you're with. There's a big reveal towards the end of this book that explains the how and why behind Zane and Celeste becoming enemies for the second time that I hadn't really seen coming. I knew something had to have happened, of course, but I wasn't ready for the reality!

i’ve read all of CM’s books bc i love her writing and the story lines but this was by far the worst one

1. it was a whole lot of telling not showing and so i didn’t even feel bad for the FMC bc she fucked up so majorly but we don’t get to understand why she chose the revenge route
2. and then we aren’t shown how the FMC and MMC navigate that, we are just told the same stuff in different words + they can’t stop having sex and it’s SO repetitive
3. it was like CM just started writing scenes and left them unfinished, it was such lazy writing
4. which is wild bc the book is literally 500 pages which was absurd for the actual amount of plot that occurred
5. it’s also a con that CM made me sympathize with a MAN and the FMC had to grovel but she didn’t even commit to it like she gave up so easily and she cried ALL the time and i just couldn’t stand her which is annoying bc im a girl’s girl :/

a little too slow paced in part 2 for my liking but i didn’t hate it. part 1 had a better pace to it in my opinion

I pretty much cried like 1/3 of the book. I should have known that things were too good to be true 25% in. It just makes me so angry that trust can be broken so easily and none of this pain would have happened without the stupid grandparents.

Every time Zane insinuated that Celeste wasn’t worth it or that he was just biding his time for his next wife, it made my heart ache. She was cruel to him but he was downright cutting. It hurt.

I marked it down a star because I wasn’t a fan of the reveal of why Lily did what she did. I think i could see this coming but it also didn’t sit well that she hid that side of her that well?

Anyway, it is FUCKING WORK to get to the happy ending but it’s there. Intrigued by the next one! I hope it’s a little lighter because i don’t think I’ll be re-reading this one again soon for the same reason as The Wrong Bride. It hurts too much
