I wanna scream. Why why why.
Okay so I don't like when books are divided into two parts to explain the backstory (first part: the past - second part: the present/future). I prefer when they have alternated chapters because I find them more intriguing but that's just me.
All this time jumping... sighh don't like it.
Now.

All they needed was therapy and an honest conversation. This book would've been over in a couple of hundred pages. I swear.
In the five years they spent apart hating each other, also
Spoilerwe don't see it, it's told by them/others
they should've gone to therapy. They could've avoided so much pain. She literally saw
Spoilerher bestie die in front of her. That's some real trauma. And yeah Lily had so many issues (look it up, i'm not qualified) I get it but the dad waited, what?, 5/6 years??? instead of telling her right away????

I'm so mad.

I don't understand why he didn't try to wait for her or be patient of something. He knew she was grieving and was acting weird and did what she did but I still think he should've been more understanding instead of trying to ruin her life.
I feel like he should've waited for her to come to her senses.

Some quotes that prove my point:
Spoiler “I’m sorry for getting mad at you when I should’ve reassured you. I’m sorry for not being more understanding,"
YES YOU SHOULD'VE!

“I should’ve understood it’ll take time to heal, and that broken trust can’t be fixed overnight. Instead of getting mad or being disappointed with your reaction, I should’ve understood and worked with you. I should’ve reassured you, but instead, I condemned you for showing me your wounds. Just because I didn’t cheat on you doesn’t mean you aren’t suffering from the emotional wounds the entire situation left you with, and as your husband, I failed you by not supporting you the way I should have.”

Yes, you failed.

Again they needed therapy. I'm glad they found each other again. They made me cry I admit. She was strong, I'd never. Seriously I'd have given up on him after the first try. Never beg for a man. Am I right, sprinkle sprinkle lady?

I loved the part where
Spoilershe talks to the grandparents.

Is the the worst brother? Eh. I mean Ares was a handful but this one? Yeah he was wins the contest.

Also, why do the grandparents hate each other so much??? I hate that it was never explained.

This would have been a 5 star if the book ended after first 35 chapters. It was actually so so good until then. And it went downhill from there. It was unnecessarily so long and most of the parts in second half was not really needed. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Also I have seen many reviews that made such a big deal about the heroine grovelling and I was ready to get pissed when I read it but it wasn't even that bad like they said. She just was trying to correct the mistakes she made. Ofc Zane wasn't any better either. He didn't work as hard as her. He made her life hell out of spite. But I guess I get where both were coming from.

What a roller coaster of a book.

I love a second chance romance because couples are able to build on past experience. In Zane and Celeste’s case they were basically on their third try and the past was causing more trouble than they thought they could handle.

I’m going to be honest, for a large portion of the book I was team Zane not trusting her even though I wanted them together in the end… not sure how those two things could exist at the same time but not to worry because Catherine Maura is a genius and d’oliveraies the perfect happy ending for them.

Zane and Celeste are a couple that you can almost guarantee are actually together 50 years from now because their love is so strong.

With all that being said, I cannot wait for Lexington’s book. I have been looking forward to it since he was first introduced!

Oh boy did this book give me emotional damage. This book wasn’t bad but it was my least favorite so far. Celeste character was annoying for not voicing out her concerns and instead bottled all her emotions for years. A lot could have been processed if she would have explained. She also needed therapy for what she saw and what her friend did to her. I felt like that was glossed over and I can see why she did what she did. Zane and Celeste were so good at hurting each other.  Zane was more up front however they faced challenges when the twist was revealed and it just seemed no matter what they did as a couple they could never overcome. Perhaps they should have gone their own ways. The angst was no joke, still enjoyed it. This book also had TW which did not bother me as I went in blindly but I can see how reading it can spoil the story.

I've read the previous 3 books multiple times but this one quite didn't feel like it and the real story literally started after 35% but the plot twist was unexpected.
