The writing style is beautiful, very well written. Feminist themes throughout. I thought the story moved on quite quickly at points and lacked a bit of depth, so knocked off half a star.

The writing in this book is great, but the plot's scope is too wide. There was no catharsis, no climax, it felt more like a collection of stories than one cohesive novel.

I loved how bluntly and regularly it was stated that the women in Greek mythology are the ones who pay the price for the “heroism” of men. It doesn’t shy away from the injustice of it, and dies its best to find a kind of union in that suffering.

It felt like a feminist read, though not one that was trying to be empowering.

I wasn’t fully satisfied with the ending, but I suppose that’s the way mythology goes most of the time.

I'm sorry, but to put this book among the pantheon of Circe or The Silence of the Girls is an insult. I suppose if you're looking for a quasi modern re-telling of Greek myth with an uneven plot, stilted dialogue, and little feminist insight, this is the right book for you. As for me, I'm highly disappointed.

As a Greek woman, I found the retelling of some of the mythology to be questionable. For example, Athena did not give Medusa the snakes to punish her but to protect her from men. I understand, however, the retelling the author chose better suited the narrative of her book.

For a feminist book, it portrayed women as weak and powerless which was not the case in Ancient Greece! Women in Minoan and Mycenaean civilizations were integral parts of society with prominent roles.

The author claims to have a fascination with Greek mythology yet doesn’t have a clear understanding of it. It’s sad to see the stories we were brought up with twisted for the sake of selling books. Mediocre at best.

although i love greek mythology i found this book very boring. it preaches about being feminist & embodying sisterhood but it really just fell into the trope of “all women are mothers and wives.” maybe percy jackson just set my expectations too high. also the pace was just SO SLOW i couldn’t stand it.

This climbed from a 3 star to a 4 star in the last 100 pages for me.
This story was heavily inspired by Circe and it shows. And I feel like the timeline of their release dates seem to line up in a way that makes me think Saint read Circe and said "I wish I wrote this book" and then wrote an extremely similar book.

It was obvious, in some parts that it was a debut, where it got wordy for no reason and became boring to read.

I wish there was more resolve in the ending, but it did surprise me that Saint really /went for it/ in the ending. This book felt safe and boring until that point, and it was like the author finally started to find her voice. Like she just kept the rest for character development and called it a day.

Overall, though, this was a short read, and I thought it was pretty decent.
