Finally...the story of the Battersea Barricades. I loved this short story. It’s by far my favorite of the bunch. Sit with Max and Dr. Bairstow as Mrs. Mack, Mrs. Enderby, and Mrs. Shaw tell the tale of the Civil Uprising and the final fight that won the war. I couldn’t help getting a little teary. This was a wonderful addition to this serious, and I’m so glad their story has finally been told. Absolutely loved this.

I love the short stories as much as the normal ones when it comes to St Mary's as they usually give an insight into one of the characters. This time the book features Mrs Mack, Mrs Shaw and Mrs Enderby, we always knew these 3 ladies were definitely not just the average Heads and assistant. We find out how the 3 met and what they got up to in their youth, not just baking buns that's for sure! I don't want to spoil the book but if you're in a revolution you couldn't ask for better people to stand at your side!

This is an excellent short story filling in the blanks for the characters rolls at the Battersea Barricades. Unlike Hollywood people are scared and convey this realistically. No chiselled jawed American saving the day with no sign of fear here, here Heroism comes to those who least expect it and they're scared silly whilst being the hero. Excelent.

I'm giving this one five stars only because Goodreads doesn't let me give six stars.

This series never disappoints, but finally getting the outstanding and moving story of the Battersea Barricades took it above and beyond. Loved this one.

In which we find out more about the civil uprising where Mrs Mack, Mrs Enderby and Mrs Shaw met and stood against a corrupt government.

Taylor's trademark humour is still present, but dialled right down which serves the story perfectly. No racing about in pods this time around. Instead, the three ladies come to the forefront to give us a verbal account of their experiences during the Battersea Barricades. A nice touch of oral history that fleshes out some of St Mary's background characters whilst further realising an already solidly-built alternate world.

I'm always a little apprehensive that stories about side characters will be somehow unsatisfying, but really they're rather like watching an artist fill in background details of a large painting. It seems like a lot of work for something you aren't completely focused on, but it's always worth that extra effort it because it adds such richness, depth and understanding to the rest of the work.

A short to flesh out some of what happened long before St Mary's was formed.

Also contraband goods will forever be known as Textiles. From Bolivia.
