Greenhollow holds a secret of a faerie king and the man who protects those who would enter from being taken by him. Tobias has been living in the forest with his cat and the old gods and spirits for a very long time, until a young man purchases the hall in the forest and begins to ask questions. Tobias isn't much for talking but warns Henry Silver from coming to the forest on the solstice, only Henry doesn't listen.

This was a wonderful short faerie tale, both exciting and romantic in its own way. The writing style was quite beautiful and full of imagery. For the shortness of the story, only around 150 pages Tesh did a great job in making the characters both three dimensional and loveable. The reimagining of Tobias as a sort of Greenman was unique and the casual romantic feelings that bloomed between him and Henry was quite believable and earned.

This is a queer fantasy novella, and I enjoyed it, but I also feel like I missed out on a lot from listening to the audiobook, so I think I might need to reread it physically someday. There were parts where I was confused as to how we got where we were, but I did really like Tobias and Henry as characters, and I loved the enchanted forest vibes!

This wasn’t anywhere close to what I expected and I think I enjoyed it even more for that. It seems rare to get a book so based on fantasy folklore that hasn’t already been written and re-written by various authors.

2021 re-read: still loved this, but took me much longer to get through! Though I noticed more little nuances this time which was fun.
