Totally my kind of book. The adventure, the romance. I love it when I get to that point in a book where it gets so good that I can't and don't want to stop reading. I had that feeling for this book. A good ending as well that felt satisfying.

Thank you, Maurissa Guibord, for a wo1nderful book.

REVIEW:
SPEECHLESS! After I read the last page I sat there thinking about what I was going to say and I couldn’t think of anything but how much I loved what I just finished. The characters were wonderfully developed, the plot was mysterious and caught me by surprise and of course the romance! This is definitely my favorite of 2013 and being my first book by Maurissa Guibord, it will not be my last.

Revel follows Delia McGovern who is determined to go the Trespass Island where her mother grew up. But once she arrives, she isn’t welcomed with open arms but with stares and warnings. Even her own grandmother wants her to leave, but for her own safety. Delia quickly learns that Trespass has many secrets and she finally discovers why her mother left in the first place.

Delia is a character that readers will connect with right away. After loosing her mother, she wants to go to the place she was born and where her only living relative is suppose to be. If I was put in her shoes, I wouldn’t let anything stand in my way of visiting the only relative I had left, Delia does just that and then some. She not only discovers the strange traditions and mystery that keeps all the residents from leaving the island, but she finds out how she’s connected to it all. I loved her growing relationship with her grandmother and to see how they needed each other after the loss of her mother, plus to stay safe from all the “monsters” on the Island.

Sean is someone on Trespass that everyone seems to respect. He also has a secret and always seems to want to protect Delia. I was shocked the most by Sean’s character development, I wasn’t prepared for what happens and absolutely loved the major twist.

Jax is hugely connected to Trespass Island in many ways; he is also an outcast and most people stay away from him. Delia can’t seem to get him out of her head after their first encounter and their chemistry develops at a perfect pace. I enjoyed reading Jaxs’ development, he was so curious about Delia and the readers will definitely see how confused he is by her actions and boldness. Lets just say I’m very much Team Jax!

Overall Revel rocked and I seriously can’t wait to read this again. Delia is a memorable protagonist that the readers will love following her through her discovery of the island. The “monsters” and mysteries were creatively done and I loved the mythology twist. There are many monsters to this story, god like beings to creepy creatures that make you never want to go near an ocean. The lead characters have to rely on each other to fight off the real dangers, while learning that Delia is very important to Trespass.

As a reader who is starting to get picky about what Young Adult books I read, I was thrilled with the originality and thrilling pace that kept me hooked to finish in one sitting. If you like mythology, romance and a mystery that will keep you guessing Revel is a must read and shouldn’t be missed!

RECOMMENDATION:
This is a young adult novel that I highly recommend! Fans of Aimee Carters The Goddess Test series and Jennifer Esteps’ Mythos Academy series will want to dive into Revel by Maurissa Guibord.

This book was definitely original and had the potential to be great, but sadly those were the only positive qualities this book possessed. I enjoyed the first half but then it went downhill... fast. The chain of events and revelations were a little too predictable, which made it hard to maintain my interest.

Some aspects are just so cliche. Gorgeous girl with powers she wasn't aware of, town between two boys from both worlds. Just what will she do?

Still...
Something about it was unique enough and fresh enough that I really enjoyed it.

Delia just lost her mother a few months ago. With no family left she makes her way to the island her mother was from, and where her grandmother still lives. Turns out, nobody is to just show up on the island and she gets a rude welcome. Things seem strange on the island from the very beginning.

Turns out, sea people descended from Poseidon live in the waters around the island and basically tell the islanders what they can and can't do. They go along with it because there are a few benefits, like good catches for the fishermen and great weather.

Audrey thinks she is simply the decedent of people who live on the island, but the longer she's there the more clear it becomes her father is actually from the sea, and that among the changes her body makes, she's actually a siren, one of the most powerful of them.

In the end she's broken a curse on the island, she's changed relations between the two peoples so that the islanders aren't forced into a kind of subjection anymore, and is with her fishy man Jax.

As far as the love triangle goes, it's not much of one. Sean exists, and Audrey entertains the idea of being with him a few times, but always admits she is drawn to Jax. Sean is the handsome island boy, Jax is a surly scarred up water man.

I really liked that this is a stand alone. I wish more authors would do this. If you have a good idea, write one book. If there's more story to tell, write another. Enough with the endless trilogies about nothing.

Oh. My. Goodness!!! I love, love, LOVED this book! It's amazing! It's one of those books that grabs you in the first couple of pages and doesn't let go until the end! And I didn't want it to end!!! It needs a sequel or a trilogy. I'm so sad it had to end but oh goodness did I enjoy my time on Trespass Island!

I can't tell you much because it will give everything away and I want you to experience it yourself, but trust me, this is a wonderful read! There it's this girl who goes to visit her grandma and her entire life changes. It also changes those around her.

Just read it! LOL!

First, the cover image is gorgeous and arresting. I love it.

Next, I did not really think I would like this book--I sometimes don't love fantasy books, and the blurb sounded really serious and solemn. But, I liked it a lot! It's only got a little bit of fantasy element, and the story focused on the character(s). The protagonist was very realistic and definitely had flaws, and I was really invested in her story. It wasn't exactly a comedic one, but it was far from solemn. A great, easy style to read.

As the book drew close to the end, I started wondering/worrying that it was going to turn out to be the first in a trilogy and nothing would get resolved. Happily that was not the case, though the opposite then happened--the end felt wrapped up too quickly. And dare I say I almost hope there would be a follow-up book? I liked getting to know all of the characters and would love to see what happens to them.

Really enjoyed this. My only qualms was that I wished it was longer. I feel like it could have another hundred pages to explore more of the mythology and more of the ending of the book. I feel like the author glossed over more of the gory details. She could have written a really awesome battle scene at the end, but instead just fast forwarded to a description of the damage and intent to rebuild the island. Though that is fine and dandy (and maybe I just love some action) I was slightly disappointed in the ending.

This book explored discovering long-lost family and friends I would love to have been able to read more about them. Especially with the changes that are going to be made to the dynamic of Trespass as its rebuilt. Needless to say I would love to read another book about their world!
