This book is not for everyone. The main character is very unlikeable and does some not so nice things, like cutting off a man's penis. I enjoyed the main character's voice. Each "chapter" is a diary entry of the main character and she made me laugh and root for her at times. There are trigger warnings for violence/murder, rape and pedophilia (nothing is graphically described, but there are mentions of these things) mention of abortion, and cheating. There are also a lot of sex scenes and cuss words. Again not everybody will like this book. I enjoy the unreliable/unlikeable narrator trope, so I enjoyed it. I look forward to reading the sequel and seeing what else she gets up to.

Rhiannon ha avuto il suo momento di celebrità quando ancora era all’asilo, unica sopravvissuta a un massacro. A causa di una martellata che ha lesionato il lobo frontale, ci sono voluti anni perché potesse riprendere a parlare, camminare e svolgere le azioni più semplici, ma ora è una 27enne come tutte le altre, con un lavoro (che odia perché non viene mai valorizzata dai suoi superiori), un ragazzo (che la tradisce) e delle amiche (che disprezza con tutta se stessa). E come fa una donna a sopportare le piccole grandi sfide di ogni giorno senza un hobby che le consenta di scaricare tutto lo stress? E chi siamo noi per giudicare se l’hobby di Rhiannon è l’omicidio?
Ho apprezzato che la protagonista non venga dipinta come un’eroina: scegli le sue vittime tra stupratori e pedofili, ma uccide anche per semplice vendetta; è sadica, ha gusti… particolari nell’intimità, e non le manca l’immaginazione.
Sweetpea è un libro sporco, cattivo, e incredibilmente catartico per il lettore.
Update: I have since watched the tv show and omg the show was so good. Another rare occasion where the adaptation is actually better than the book.

This book is about a British female serial killer. She’s been through some traumatic experiences and is easily irritated. Each entry starts off with a list of people she’d like to kill - mostly because they have annoyed her. Lots of references from British life. It’s the first in a series of 5 books (four of which are available on Hoopla - ATL Fulton county).
Written in diary style and most of the chapters are quite short so I flew through the 448 pages. It was engaging, witty and a bit raunchy.

Read it quickly, it made me want to keep picking it up to find out what was going to happen next. Looking forward to the next one and the tv series too.
