A Decent 3.25 Star*

First Wife's Shadow was a hot mess but overall, a good read. This story is about a woman who is a wealthy corporate girly that lives in a mansion in the woods. Floor to ceiling windows/glass house type of style home. She lives alone and is a single busy lady. She meets this guy who is the MMC, and they hit it off quickly. The MMC lets her know that he is a new widower and she feels weird about it initially, but he draws her in, and she pushes it to the side, like on a daily. He constantly makes excuses and puts his late wife as the reason for the excuse. The FMC's girlfriends are feeling like he's using her for her money and now the FMC is thinking his late wife is haunting her.

This book has a quick, easy and chill pacing. I would say it's more of a slow burn and as it continues it begins to get nutty. I enjoyed this story and how the author wrote it, but I did feel like it was sort of just "Ok". It didn't give me anything that made me want to stay up all night reading it. I feel like it had potential but once it got to the main twist it fell flat for me.

If you enjoy domestic thrillers, I recommend this one if you are new to reading thriller and you just want like some "Lifetime Movie" style drama.

Emma is successful, wealthy, and disciplined. She has created massive success in business, and when she meets Matthew, a kind and attractive widower, her life seems to be complete. Her close friends are initially happy for her, but as the relationship progresses quickly they begin to doubt Matthew’s authenticity. Emma trusts Matthew, but can’t help comparing herself to his dead wife and previous relationship. When disturbing things begin happening to Emma, she questions who or what is targeting her, and as suspicion and jealousy pile on, Emma’s worried her grip on reality is slipping.

This story was initially slow to pick up for me, but I found myself really enjoying the mystery! Emma is so smart, yet has trouble sticking to her convictions, and I felt for her as the gaslighting pursued. I felt like the reveal happened a little too fast, but the satisfying ending made up for that!

Thank you Harlequin Trade Publishing for the gifted book, and Harlequin Audio for the listening copy!

A twisty domestic thriller. The twist wasn’t mind blowing but was still a decent read.
