For a mostly action book, this book dragged on forever. I couldn't wait to finish it.
A continuation of Day by Day Armageddon.
Nothing overtly different or awe inspiring about this one, and it follows the same tone and flow of the first.
We find our still unidentified main character trying to hold his band of survivors together. In book 2 here, he comes across members of the military, more survivors and re builders. Our narrator becomes a leader for some, and a cog in the machine for others.
You'll like this one if you liked the first, and personally I'm looking forward to the third. It's an intriguing series so far, especially what they uncover with the military....

Didn't see that ending coming... I don't necessarily mean that in a good way...
I immediately jumped into Beyond Exile after reading is successor. For me, it's every bit as good as the original, because, though the group has found a safe place to hide out, at a certain point Our Hero finds himself once again on foot and fighting for his life. After the first book, I was wondering how the author would keep the terror amped while his characters were seemingly safe, but he made it happen. Another character has made his way into OH's core group, and I feel he will play an important role in the third book. I can't wait to find out.
After a great first book, J.L Bourne follows up with a worthy sequel. The characters are consistent, the action set-pieces are exciting, and the conspiracy-laden story continues to evolve.
I felt the first book ended too abruptly. This book picks up right from the end of the first book, dealing with the aftermath of an attack. The story constantly changes...just when you think you know how things are going to play out, Bourne shakes things up, putting our hero in a different, more dangerous, situation. It helps keep things from getting stale.
I did have a few issues with the story. A new sniper character is interesting, but his unexplained back story seems so obvious, that our hero looks stupid for not picking up on it. Same goes for a situation with a love interest for our hero. There is a situation that develops towards the end that is so obvious, our hero again looks stupid for not picking up the signs.
The book doesn't end as abruptly as the first book, though it does wrap up quickly and set up the main issue for book 3. I'm really enjoying this series. Even though book 3 looks to shake up the format (both in terms of writing style and locations visited), I can't wait to see where this series goes.

This was even better than the first book. I loved it. The only bad thing is that I have no idea how long I'll have to wait for the third book!!

Beyond Exile was the second book in the Day by Day Armageddon book.
Honestly, this one didn't work as well for me as the first one. It felt like halfway through this book there was a shift from the cool journal like entries to a more story based route for presentation. It was noticeable and just didn't hold my attention as much as the journal entries. I also don't know much about military, planes or cars so I felt at a loss and had to constantly research what was going on in the book. I felt like I was spending more time on the internet trying to understand what was going on than actually reading the book. I also felt that there was a lot in this book that could have been left out and the story would have remained unchanged.
That being said, it's still a great book. It's just not a book for me as a reader. I won't be continuing with this series but I will look up some spoilers for how it ends. J.L. Bourne has crafted one super cool but and I really appreciate the uniqueness of it!
Three out of five stars.
