The Wake-Up Call

Beth O'Leary

3.6 AVERAGE

This book would have a much higher rating if Izzy weren't so insufferable. I love Lucas and all of the chapters from his perspective, and I would have even forgiven the huge miscommunication if not for everything about Izzy. Her narration was so grating and frustrating; she is the most unbearably stubborn narrator I have ever experienced (and I've read The Hunger Games series multiple times lmao).

I am a fan of Beth O'Leary but this one took a while to get into. Wasn't anxious to return to it like I usually am with her fun, quirky slow burn books.

I loved the flatshare and the switch so much, so I was pretty disappointed in this book. Compared to those, the characters and plot were flat. Enemies to lovers, archrivals at a boutique hotel, and a basic miscommunication trope. To be expected from a normal romance author with cookie cutter stories, but a let down from her other brilliant stories with better casts of characters and depth of personality.

I genuinely adored reading this book. Yes, Lucas and Izzy are both hot messes, but I enjoyed my time away at the Forest Manor Hotel, with all of it quirks and silliness. Yes, everything could have been solved with one conversation; yes, they were both immature and reckless at times: but I still enjoyed escaping with this novel.

I thought that the storyline was cute, if a little far-fetched, and I'm looking forward to what O'Leary writes nexxt.

I think Beth O'Leary's books drive me crazy, like get on my nerves a lot, but at some point, I keep reading till I finish it, but I really need a break :)
Overall, I enjoy it. I'm glad it has a nice ending

was 100% giggling and kicking my feet, maybe i’m out of practice reading and therefore less likely to pick up on predictable tropes but there were moments where i genuinely gasped and gagged - overall loved the plot - lowkey our queen beth o’leary did go a little too far into silly town at the end and felt too far fetched to be compelling but i still giggled ig

not enough smut!!!!!!!!! it really is soooo pg so for all my girlies who read on public transport you’re sooooo safe w this one xxxx

cute vibes and really just what i was looking got as a little break from everything else going on in the real world xxxx only loses points bc it wasn’t graphic enough sexually xxxx but that’s okay we’re all different and like reading different books xxxx
