This is a great introduction to anyone wanting to read Captain Marvel with a perfect mix of action, galactic politics and a fun crossover with other Marvel characters.

Great Read

I am still very new to comics and graphic novels but I thoroughly enjoyed this reading experience and getting a better appreciation for varying art styles.

The sci-fi aspects of this were interesting. The Marvel universe is more than just Earth. I am still not sure how much normal humans in this universe know about alien species, but the Avengers sure do know the score. I liked the strong female characters. Looking forward to the next volume.

This has always been recommended to me by tons of people, but WOW. I can't believe I haven't picked this up until now.

Pros:
-Carol Danvers is a freaking amazing heroine
-the story line was packed full of greatness and meaning
-the artwork was totally stunning
-fantastic cast of characters
-cameos involving Tony, Rhodey, AND the Guardians!!

Cons:
-there seriously weren't any

I'd highly recommend this to all comic lovers!!

The first part of this wasn't as interesting to me, as much as the second half. The space part and adventures in all the different places definitely kept me reading. Yes, there were some things I could have done without, and the reason she had to venture out into the unknown, but it still worked out. I enjoyed this enough to want to keep reading more volumes from the writer. Here's to the next.

The story is great - surprising in the fact that it seems life a self-contained collection even though it's only the first part of an ongoing series. This collection could very easily become the basis for the planned Captain Marvel movie that is slated for release in a few years without having to sacrifice any beats or scenes from this trade. The comic is fun and action packed, Carol Danvers is a dynamic lead, and it examines some hearty issues without feeling to preachy or weighed down. The only downside is that the characters (Carol included) all feel flat in this first part. More time is given to crafting the mystery (which I enjoyed), but it was hard to be too invested in the plight of the story without being too attached to any of the characters.

The only thing I wish we got was more backstory on Carol; however, for people that aren't new to Ms. Danvers that would have been very repetitive of previous issues (I assume, as she was Ms. Marvel before, correct?) for all the longtime Captain Marvel fans. I have the next two issues and then I might grab up the "essential Captain Marvel" compendium-esk thing from my library to grasp more of her background.

Nice

I loved the drawings, didn't realize Groot is scarier in the comics. Loved the storyline. Can't wait to read more!

This Captain Marvel collection is up there as one of the better comic book runs I have read! Many comics tend to milk their drama and end up only strangling it, but DeConnick keeps things moving at a brisk pace while also doing a great job of tying in a colorful, three dimensional cast of characters both new and old. Despite Carol Danvers' unbelievable power, she struggles with internal and external doubt in a grounded, spellbinding tale that flexes her position as one of Marvel's cornerstone cosmic characters. The artwork easily matches the story's grace, too. The only thing keeping this book from a five star score for me are it's unimaginative action set pieces and a handful of lines that just don't land, but overall this is one of the most enjoyable comics I have yet read.
