A young 13 year-old girl,Lucinda disappears from a village in the Lake District and Lisa is blamed in part because of a mis-communication. This results in the police not knowing for several hours. What Kind of Mother Are you is a fast paced novel with gripping short chapters that keeps the reader wanting more.
The novel is told from 3 points of view being quite distinguishable from each other.
I liked the world Daly creates in that we're in the lake district, quite a vast remote area for the UK but she sets the novel in a village close to Windermere, added a freezing cold rain and it begins to feel hemmed in and claustrophobic.
Daly sets things up nicely and you wonder what's that there for? It all makes sense as the loose strands are explained,
The concept of Lisa blaming herself for the girl's disappearance I couldn't fathom because of certain flaws in her argument but in the end there is a rational explanation.
The Detective, Joanne is a down to earth character and my only gripe with the book was Daly making her obsessed with her own breasts.
Having said that although the book deals with the disappearance of children it asks a great question, how far will you go to keep your family together?

this was a quick read but not as great as other reviews make it out to be. I don’t think comparisons to “gone girl” are appropriate since that’s a way different type of protagonist and story.

Edge-of-your-seat suspense. I could feel for Lisa - I'm just that busy and crazy and tired as she describes. But after all the dust settles, I felt sorry for Kate and her sister. There was all this preaching about no one being better than anyone else or feeling inferior and then the tables are turned and the town dumps on these two women. Remind me not to become mentally ill in the Lakes region of England - quite a judgmental bunch there.

As a mother myself, I was drawn to the book description. This was definitely a page turner.

very much enjoyed the twists and turns of this one and it did manage to surprise me a few times. It did have something of a slow start, but after those first couple of chapters I couldn't put it down.

I am a little torn with this book. The actual story surrounding the missing girl was pretty good probably 3-4 stars. The issue though, is that there are so many random story lines or chapters which go on for no reason. The side stories really don't matter or make any impact on the novel aside from filler content. I was pretty disappointed.

I received this book through a contest on Goodreads, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was very interesting how easily others can lay the blame on someone else and also how easily we can blame ourselves for something that I felt was not entirely Lisa's fault. The book was well written and had me itching to read it whenever possible, and then not wanting to put it down once I'd started. I will definitely read other books by Paula Daly.
Thank you Goodreads for the opportunity to read a book that I might not have come by on my own.

Wow what a great read. Really gripping and kept me guessing right to the end. Will definitely look out for more from this author.

I flew through this - it’s so addictive although feels a little thin. It’s one of those books that feels trashy unfortunately. The twist was so easy to predict and a lot of the story felt like padding for what was really a pretty straightforward thriller. I found the overly sexualised bits unnecessary and uncomfortable to read. My 3 star rating is a reflection on how hooked the author had me I just wish it had turned out to be more complex.
