4 1/2 stars - I read this for my J read for my abc challenge. This book was told by 3 POV's. 1st POV - Lisa the mother of 3 who is overwhelmed at being a mom. While she is supposed to watch her best friend's daughter she gets kidnapped and is blamed for her disappearance. 2nd POV - the kidnapper who you don't know who it is until the very end. 3rd POV - Joanne the detective who is on the case looking for the missing girl. There are a few twists and turns that I did not see coming. If you want a quick read I recommend this one.
the last fifty pages felt like a total different book.
i liked that the mc just sucked so bad but at the end it felt like the author wasnt assuming it .

This is a debut novel and it does live up to the hype of not being able to put it down! Its pretty scary reading a book about child abduction based on your doorstep and this one is set in Troutbeck and Windermere which are just up the road from me.
The premis is that Lisa is responsible for her friend's daughter on the day she goes missing. She is so busy juggling motherhood and the responsibility of running an animal sanctuary that forgets to tell her friend that a sleep over is cancelled. So when news breaks that her daughter's friend has vanished the day after another 13 year has turned up raped in Bowness everyone blames Lisa...
The story switches between the first person of Lisa as she struggles with her guilt whilst trying to get on with her daily life and a third person account of the female DC Joanne who is assigned to the case. There is a great cast of characters many of whom are not what they seem and the investigations reveal plenty of dirty secrets.... Lots of twists and turns and red herrings along the way.
Will Lucinda be found in time? Who is responsible for these dreadful crimes and will they be caught before any more girls vanish? I couldn't stop reading until I got right to the end...

This book was recommended to me by someone. I was intrigued throughout the whole book.....but when all was said and done, I think I was a little disappointed. The ending, while interesting, seemed like it was just thrown out. There was no lead-up to it in the book whatsoever, and it seemed like the author was like, "Ok, I'm done, let's just end this."
So good, so many wtf’s and twists. Lowkey didn’t see it coming, lowkey saw it coming. Would still recommend this novel to a murder mystery fan. Its a nail-biter for sure.
The interesting thing about Just What Kind of Mother Are You? is that Lisa Kallisto’s lapse in attention doesn’t bring about tragedy for her own child, but instead for one of her friend’s children. Daly writes in an easy and straightforward manner, and throws in quite a few surprises as Lisa’s emotional state runs the gamut between guilt, shame and the desire to escape the spotlight and responsibility. I really liked the dynamics of the friendship Daly showed in the relationship between Lisa and Kate – the friction that can arise when women of different socioeconomic backgrounds attempt a friendship, Lisa’s relationship with her husband, and her dissatisfaction with their lives. I also enjoyed the looks into the investigating detective’s life. The novel is a portrait of life in this small town. My only nagging issue is the lack of tension I felt throughout most of the book, but I can’t quite out my finger on why that was. Still, and enjoyable mystery.
