This was such an interesting read.

I had this on my TBR and when I read the description I was a bit put off wondering why I wanted to read this. I picked this up eventually for a challenge and I'm happy I did so.

Its an interesting book though with the way its written, pov's and the characters.

POV's start being just the girl called Leah. She is described to me as quite a hippy being but she herself doesn't like that. She has frizzy hair and wears flowy skirts. It flicks to being James' point of view and you start with his POV at the same time you meet Leah at the start of the book, not sure that makes sense. Basically you recap what you have read from her point of view to his point of view; their first meeting, second meeting etc... Its quite a funny read from that way. And eventually it ends up being their story told from chapter to chapter flicking between his and her point of views while their lives are more together than how they started. (I can't explain without giving away too much but I hope you get the gist).

James is a straight laced individual. Hes a plastic surgeon but his life isn't perfect even though he has the money Leah does not. His brother who I have checked is on a downward spiral after losing the pregnant love of his life in a tragic accident which saw them saving the baby. Their sister is the primary care giver to this infant while James is trying to get a handle on Jeremy. I must confess this whole situation puts a very negative light on this brother before we have fully met him...
Leah as said before is a hippy person, she works in a new-age shop for minimum wage. Has a weird landlord who she isn't paying because shes on minimum wage. I like her for all her flaws. The lieing is a big weird. I didn't like that aspect of her but when she gives money to the homeless man I liked her a lot more than I had.

This story is fast paced. I think although its a long book the ending is a big rushed. We spend too long flicking between POVs or recapping you lose the momentum we have in building the romance and love. It ends up seeming a bit wham and I'm not sure that is necessarily fair when the author builds the world and story between these two so well.

So many thoughts on this book.. It was cute and awful and funny and distasteful and... well, it had so much potential. This book started out cute for the first chapter or two, anyway. Sure Leah came off as a free spirit with a serious screw loose, but not a bad person. Then the story just got a bit crazed and started getting a bit too outlandish for me. I couldn't get into it and was being pushed away by the obscenity of her behavior. Then suddenly you're thrown into James's side of the story and you're grasping for straws in a 'what the heck' kind of way. Finally, about 2/3 of the way through the story things start to come together and I started actually enjoying what I was reading. I really don't know what I just read and there's no one I would recommend this seriously bizarre story to, but I don't regret reading it and will admit to laughing and smiling a few times despite my permanent furrowed brow.

I have an uneasy relationship with Elle Casey's books. Some I have really liked, others I disliked so much I made the conscious decision to DNF them. I hadn't realised that when I saw this as a Kindle freebie (my reaction to free books is "oh, shiny new book, yes, yes please").

This is an interesting novel. The first third is told from Leah's POV. She is sort of hippyish, works in a New Age shop, lives on the breadline, has trouble finding the rent. On a day fraught with disaster, steps in dog poo, chased by security guards, she finds a seven carat diamond ring in a fountain. Initially she thinks that she can sell the ring and solve all her problems but she soon comes to feel that the ring is an incarnation of karma - only if she returns it to its rightful owner can she change her luck. Unfortunately for Leah the owner of the ring doesn't want it back. He too thinks that the ring is some embodiment of karma - but to him the loss of the ring was a good thing. As Leah tries every more elaborate ways of giving the ring back to James the kookiness factor sky-rockets.

The second third of the book is told from James' POV. He is a wildly successful plastic surgeon. Unfortunately that is the only good thing in his life (I won't say more). Although at first he thinks Leah is a (possibly homeless) madwoman because they keep accidentally running into each, sometimes literally, he soon starts to find her appealing - until he realises that she wants to give him back the engagement ring he threw in the fountain.

The final third of the book is told alternately from Leah and James' POVs. Whilst the whole thing is a bit ridiculous - think Goldie Hawn at her scattiest, or maybe that Barbra Streisand film set in San Francisco where they all have the same hand luggage, it was fun and amusing.

The only sour note, to me, was the sex scene.
SpoilerI thought the first time they spelt together tying her up with his ties was a bit OTT, especially since it wasn't that sort of book, but there appeared to be some continuity issues as he managed to drag her knickers off whilst her legs were tied to the bed posts! Also, and here I may be mixing up another book in which case I apologise, there was reference to his rod between her folds - eugh!
. But otherwise I enjoyed this and will probably pick up the others in the series.

Hilarious

This was a great Rom-com read. I was laughing throughout at all the ridiculous things Leah did. And then my heart broke when we got to James.
Great read!
