Fast paced action made this book a quick read, but the execution was lacking.
The writing is a little repetitive and at times annoying (for example, I am a little weary of the main character “biting back a scream” every other chapter.)
I also thought the characters felt a bit flat. Despite being in Avery’s head CONSTANTLY I don’t feel a real connection with her at all (nor do I really want to, she kind of irritated me.)
Rather than knowing the main character’s every thought, I wish I knew more about the Circle or the Order or even the motivations behind the other minor characters’ actions. Instead I felt like I lurched from one near death experience to the next along side the clueless girl with the purple eyes.

great boys in it
good storyline
can't wait for next one

So I liked this book, in the way I like old teen soaps; I cringed, but I still read it all the way through. I'll probably read the next book? Maybe? I don't know.

First things first, is that the author on the cover? The girl on the front sure looks a lot like the picture of the author on the back.

As far as the book.... It was okay. Fun idea for a book, but fell a little short. I didn’t connect with the heroine all that much. I didn’t have that insatiable drive to just. keep. reading. like I do for truly intriguing books. I didn’t feel much for the characters - not scared, not excited, not teenage angsty, not anything. Sadly, I didn’t get sucked into the world of rich and powerful secret families, Prada, masquerade balls, fleets of jets, and sword yielding young bucks. But I think the writer could have potential. I hope she develops her skills, makes a more connected read, and knocks it out of the ball park next time around. So I’ll give the next book a shot.

1.5/5 stars. What the hell did I just read. I haven't done so much eye rolling since The Selection series. This was just as flat and on the surface. Everything was far fetched, the plot not at all thought out properly and these prophecies ahem mandates, were so lame. I couldn't get on board the romance and I hate Avery. Honestly is there anybody more naive and stupid? A boring person that lacked any personality. The only good thing about this book is the cover. 1 star for that!

This is the second time reading this for me, because I just ordered the second one from the library, but realized I had entirely forgotten everything that happened in the first. I really enjoyed this more the second time around, I guess because I didn't have the expectation of YA DaVinci code in my head this time. Sometimes making comparisons like that isn't a great idea, because its just not going to be like that. It is its own thing, and that's okay. The romance was kinda of cheesy in places, but I loved the historical mystery thriller parts, although my brain falls asleep during car chase/motorcycle chase scenes. I loved the Alexander the Great angle, mysterious prophecies, secret clues, tomb raiding and all that and I hope to see much more emphasis on that in the next book, because that's what kept me reading.

15 year old me would have loved this book

Maybe a 3.75.

I'm glad that this book was definitely more of a secret society book than a flat out political storyline. I tend to loathe political books.

I'm surprised by how much I liked the vibe of this book and the characters. I'm not shocked that there is somewhat of a love triangle (so beware if you hate that trope)... but I did feel like this book does steer you a bit in the direction of who the author wants you to fall for, but not in an aggressive way like Twilight. I felt with Twilight, the books are very obvious that Bella will end up with Edward, whereas with The Conspiracy if Us, both men are intriguing.

I’m intrigued where this story will go, but I have a feeling I won’t like the second installment on this trilogy.
