1.5/5 stars. What the hell did I just read. I haven't done so much eye rolling since The Selection series. This was just as flat and on the surface. Everything was far fetched, the plot not at all thought out properly and these prophecies ahem mandates, were so lame. I couldn't get on board the romance and I hate Avery. Honestly is there anybody more naive and stupid? A boring person that lacked any personality. The only good thing about this book is the cover. 1 star for that!
This is the second time reading this for me, because I just ordered the second one from the library, but realized I had entirely forgotten everything that happened in the first. I really enjoyed this more the second time around, I guess because I didn't have the expectation of YA DaVinci code in my head this time. Sometimes making comparisons like that isn't a great idea, because its just not going to be like that. It is its own thing, and that's okay. The romance was kinda of cheesy in places, but I loved the historical mystery thriller parts, although my brain falls asleep during car chase/motorcycle chase scenes. I loved the Alexander the Great angle, mysterious prophecies, secret clues, tomb raiding and all that and I hope to see much more emphasis on that in the next book, because that's what kept me reading.
Maybe a 3.75.
I'm glad that this book was definitely more of a secret society book than a flat out political storyline. I tend to loathe political books.
I'm surprised by how much I liked the vibe of this book and the characters. I'm not shocked that there is somewhat of a love triangle (so beware if you hate that trope)... but I did feel like this book does steer you a bit in the direction of who the author wants you to fall for, but not in an aggressive way like Twilight. I felt with Twilight, the books are very obvious that Bella will end up with Edward, whereas with The Conspiracy if Us, both men are intriguing.
I’m intrigued where this story will go, but I have a feeling I won’t like the second installment on this trilogy.

The premise was good and really interesting (I'm always a slut for ancient conspiracies) but the romance stuff ruined what was good about it.
3.5 stars.
Listened to this on audio book. I really enjoyed the narrator.
Going into this for some reason I thought it was sci-fi or fantasy. So imagine my surprise when it's really not. Sure there are some things, like prophecy's and "Illuminati" type organization, but not what I was envisioning going into this.
For the most part I did like the characters. Avery did one thing that really annoyed me...
This was a fun story, fairly fast paced, the only part that dragged for me was the beginning. I think I'll continue with the series. It's not one that I'm super interested in what could happen next but I'm still curious, so when I'm in the mood I'll pick up the next two.

Spoiler
so this whole thing kicks into gear because Avery just decides to go with a strange guy to Paris to supposedly meet her father, who she's never met. Um, I understand the desire to meet her father and I get she's 16, but come on, she seemed pretty smart and then she just said, ok, take me to a foreign country where I have no idea if you're telling the truth about anything but it's fine. I would have gone along with it if Stellan had kept the knife on her. It would have been more believable then. This was a fun story, fairly fast paced, the only part that dragged for me was the beginning. I think I'll continue with the series. I'm not really convinced with the plot. But still it is interesting enough for me to await the sequel.
