This was really well-done YA. It had a solid balance of immaturity, expression, and that feeling of being completely trapped in your circumstances because you’re just a teenager and don’t have any other prospects. The conflict was realistic. It’s not graphic.

I just wish we had a little more at the end - it sped through the resolution and ending and I wanted more.

3.5

Overall, I think this book was really cute! I would've appreciated a bit of a longer build up into the relationship, but I still enjoyed it. I tend to prefer a slow burn romance, which wasn't the case with this, but I think a lot of people will still enjoy it. I also loved the friendships formed in this book and the bonds that already existed with the Amber and her best friend/fake boyfriend.

I didn't have too many issues with the book, however, the beginning was a bit too much info-dumping for me. Also the ending just felt a little too good to be true? There were some consistent elements within some characters throughout the whole book that did a complete 180 at the end. And lastly, although this could just be a personal preference, but there were just way too many pop culture references and it took me out of the story. I was not expecting Jack to start rapping Guns and Ships from Hamilton at any point within this book, and yet it happened.

Content warnings: homophobia, bullying, misogyny, death of a friend (in the past),
miscarriage (in the past)

I wanted to love this, I really did. And for the most part, I had a lot of fun reading about the female quarterback and the cheer captain who falls for her. But the misogyny and the bullying and the homophobia was SO RAMPANT - from the cheerleaders as well as the football players - that it honestly impacted my enjoyment of the story. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely believe that it would happen. But I wanted slightly less of it in my escapism. You know?

I thought it was a good read the only thing I wish would be that the ending was longer. I felt like there was more to tell.
