Audio. Full disclosure: I love 99% of what RVD writes. CJ Bloom & Eric London are definitely in my list of favorite narrators. So, it was going to be difficult for this book to disappoint. Even though I could read/listen via KU ~ I bought it.

Yes, the jilted-bride-goes-on-honeymoon-anyway-and-meets-her-forever-man has been done numerous times before, but RVD pulls it off well by adding a few unique twists and turns. Places where I thought I knew where she was going, she made a different decision with great results.

I loved Mac. She was adorable (I’m sure CJ Bloom’s voice helped here), yet strong and determined despite all the crap coming her way.

Speaking of crap, Slade’s attitude toward her when they meet up again is what brought this down for me. He was particularly vicious and it went along a little too long for my taste.

They get their HEA. We also get to know Matt & Jagger well enough that I can’t wait for their stories.

Risky Play is the best kind of revenge. It's karma without help. It's just desserts. It's a full circle complete with black eye. So I'm short it's a smile inducing second chance love story with an arrogant soccer star and an heiress. It's a chance to breath and a chance to live.

With jokes, snark, and one liners that keep you on your toes, RVD brings the funny back. Enjoy Risky Play because I have a feeling soccer is going to only get sexier...(The season/series is just beginning!)

Loved it

I absolutely loved this book. Their hate-to-lovers road was as fun as it was heartbreaking at times. I can’t wait for the next book

Wow, that beginning though.

Risky Play was pretty good. It kind of stabbed me in the heart with all these damn feelings in the beginning BUT I knew that Mackenzie will be okay. By stabbing me? Oh, I mean.. she was about to get married to a guy that she sort of liked.. and then he ended up leaving her at the altar. She's also a virgin.. but details. I'm sure she will meet some super attractive guy to take it.

Enter Slade. Now when these two met, it was on a vacation. Well.. it was Mack's surprise honeymoon gift.. but since that ship sank real quick - she went by herself. Kind of like the ultimate "treat yo self". Slade is there because he needs a break. He's dealing with a lot of inner demons - which we find out throughout the book.

Back to when they met. These two had obvious sparks and I found it kind of funny that they both used fake names. But I got it at the same time - still funny though. There was an awesome one night stand.. and Mack wakes up all alone.

It doesn't last for long though because they end up seeing each other back in the real world. Ya know.. with their actual names and shit. Low and behold, Mackenzie is his new personal assistant. Again, things were hilarious between these two. There's a whole lot of secrets and lies between these two, so I was intrigued to see how things were going to play out.

Overall, I enjoyed this whole book. The romance was cute and adorable. They had some hot steamy scenes as well. Plus these two just have great chemistry. After reading this, I will probably dive into the next book - whenever that comes out.

What do you do when you were walked away from at the alter and decide to go on your honeymoon alone? You have a one night stand with a mystery man. Mackenzie does not realize that the man she sleeps with in Mexico is Slade Rodriquez, a famous soccer player who has his own baggage to deal with. But can one night turn into forever with two characters who come from extremely different worlds? This book was a great read. It had a storyline I could not put down and characters who I fell in love with. I look forward to more in the series with the other characters interwoven in this one.

I LOVED this book! There was laughter and tears for me through this. I loved Slade and Mackenzie together, and I thought their chemistry was great! I know some people had problems with Slade, and I did too for a little bit. Blaming Mackenzie for what happened while he was in Mexico was ridiculous. But grief makes people do crazy things. Slade understood that he was wrong, and if you stick with the story, you get to see how he gets past his grief. The scene with the little boy at the soccer camp was so good. Mack was a great partner for Slade. I loved her and her quick wit. I wish she would have thrown her own punch at Alton though. That man needed a beat down like no other! The ending was perfect, and I was so happy to see them get their HEA! I can't wait to find out what happens with Jagger. He deserves a HEA too!
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.

Audio review:

I loved Mackenzie and Slade.
From their near death beginning to their heartwarming ending they had me laughing at their banter, cursing at their stupidity and smiling at the good times.

But the drama didn't stop there!
Towards the end I honestly had doubts that it would work out between them because their beautiful little bubble was popped - in the most conniving and malicious way.

It took me a while to get used to the narration, as Eric was new to me. However, he and CJ did a wonderful job of bringing their story to my ears.

**I received a copy of Risky Play from Skyscape Publishing and Net Galley in exchange for a voluntary and honest review. My opinions are mine alone and not solicited.**

Risky Play by Rachel Van Dyken is the first book in the authors Red Card series. I haven't read the author before so I was quite surprised at how good and the humor between the Matt and Slider was truly awesome. How could you resist Alfie, Slade's bulldog? His loyalty could be swayed with kibble and walks. If I could give Risky Play more than 5 stars hands down it's worth at least 10 stars.

Slade Rodriguez is the new slider for the Seattle Sounders and a recent transplant to our rainy city but when his ex-girlfriend not only betrayed his trust and heart So before he has to report to the Sounders he decides to take a vacation to Mexico, while on the flight he meets Mackenzie who also had her own rejection from her would-be-groom. Between to two of them they'll spend one day having fun until a tragic loss sends Slade back to his home leaving Mac with no knowledge of why he left. When he meets Mackenzie again he'll treat her with angry words and she'll feed him with food and kindness. Can they work on their trust issues and learn to love each other? Or will a past betrayal take Mackenzie from him with their lies?

Mackenzie DuPont is not only a heiress but a talented wine taster when the man she grew up with and loved has left her standing at the altar. When she decides to go to Mexico little does she know that she'll meet Slade but also have one day having more adventure but she'll once again be left alone while wondering what she did wrong. When her father decides to keep her ex-fiance she'll take a break and work for her cousin who sends her to be a personal assistant to yep, you guessed it Slade's house. Between their banter together they'll build a friendship, love and trust. But old foes never seem to go away as both Mac and Slade will have to battle lies from past loves before they get to their happily ever after.

Their meetup was perfect!! I love a great 2nd chance and they certainly deserved it! Slade was a grieving jerk for a while but once Mac realized it she tried to win him over through his stomach!! I need Jaggers story!!
