I can't do anything but love Ray Bradbury, but this was one of his less inspired works. Also I'm pretty sure that there were a couple of talking penises near the end - that's not a criticism, though.

Inescapable march of time, clock symbolism, bla bla bla....maybe because I haven't read [b:Dandelion Wine|50033|Dandelion Wine (Green Town, #1)|Ray Bradbury|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1374049845s/50033.jpg|1627774], but I didn't give a damn about Douglas and his ludicrous preteen delinquencies.
More awkwardly, I was beyond creeped out by both Quartermain's and Douglas's concluding conversations with their respective junk, both of which started with an uttered aloud "Who's there?" (Did you really need to ask that out loud? Is it really unclear where the new presence in the room is coming from?) A snippet from Douglas's: "Just lie there. You have two hearts now. Feel the pulse. One in your chest. And one below. Yes?"

Sequel to [b:Dandelion Wine|50033|Dandelion Wine (Green Town, #1)|Ray Bradbury|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1374049845l/50033._SY75_.jpg|1627774], 50+ years later. For Doug, Tom and their friends, summer had not quite finished in the fall of 1928. They didn't want summer to end or to grow older, they didn't want to be like the old men they knew in Green Town.
Bradbury created a small town that you want to live in and experience.

I learned that this is the last novel that was released by Mr. Bradbury. I don't know that I would count it among his best, but I get what he was trying to do. It's a story about a young boy in a mock war with the old men of the town towards the end of summer. It's written with a very ethereal, floaty prose. This both helps and hurts the books. When it helps it, he really captures the feeling of being a young, hellraising kid without a care in the world. When it doesn't work it feels stilted and a bit off.
The last couple chapters throw a bit of a curveball that really make the rest of it feel a bit weird. Let's just say that there is a passing of the torch that is a little bit...odd. I actually found myself wishing this were longer. He is playing with a lot of ideas and not all of them feel like they have room to breath.
Still, I like Ray Bradbury. He was the sort of author who would write about anything without much regard for whether or not it worked for the reader. A voice in literature that is sorely missed.

This is a short book about time passing away from youth. I just couldn't connect to it.

Consigliato!
