Unique and engaging. Very switched-on satire about queer social media.

This book was good lol

The format is not traditional (no quotation marks around dialog, extensive use of parenthesis, book is divided into 3 ~100pg parts instead of chapters), but it's not hard to get the hang of it if you're willing to use your brain.

I really liked the characterization. I had beef with Green (which is a good thing, bc she was reminding me of people/behaviors I have beef with IRL) but I never hated her, and I always understood her actions/beliefs, I just did notttt agree with them. Loved Six and was always on her side sorrryyyy.
Alan my sweetie pea. My sweet baby boy. Alan my beloved little white angel. ILYSM. I spent the whole book praying that he wasn't @transaretrans because I liked him so much. Imagine my sigh of relief when I got to finish the book still loving himmmm.

I also really enjoyed the sports/celebrity behind the scenes stuff. I like sports fiction so this scratched that itch. Yeah I just had fun reading this book.

My only "hang-up" is on the positioning of this book as a satire, which is no fault of the story itself. I'm not the satire sheriff so I could just be wrong, but the story felt too real to feel satirical. Like, aside from the setup itself (given our current political climate, there's no way Green and Six would be able to play on their pro teams lol), everything that happens in this book is like, something I wouldn't be shocked if it happened tomorrow. Which maybe is a little bit what satire is supposed to be, but I think I have limited experience with the genre and I expected it to be more "out there" by the end.
That being said, I enjoyed the story and had a good time reading it. I really loved the use of social media and the "liveblog" of the final game was lowkey masterful bahahaha. I was super impressed with how it conveyed the chaos of being in the stands of a sports game while I could still follow the action of the actual game.

I had so much fun!! Shout out to Benedict, I'm excited to see what she does next.

Y'know, this book is not for me. I'm a gay trans nerd for sports lit and romance. And it turned out this book isn't that and that's okay. Not bad but not for me.

Hot Girls with Balls by Benedict Nguyen
This is a fun book and also sad…?
I guess I’d say it’s a dramedy
