Heartfelt empathic version of Medusa. Really enjoyed the depiction of Athena. Also real dark.

I think this was the wrong book at the wrong time for me. I think I would have enjoyed it more, if I hadn't read it while on vacation. It just seemed too fractured due to the many POVs and it failed to suck me into the story. I assumed all parts of the story would come together, but I wasn't really interested into finding out how and why. Also, as with A Thousand Ships, it is just a whole lot of misery stitched together into a book. And I do like modern retellings of Greek myths such as Circe and A Song of Achilles, but somehow Haynes isn't my cup of tea.

I did like the Athene/Hermes/Perseus interactions though.

Also, I was glad I had read Stephen Fry before this book, since it isn't an intro into Greek God's and most Gods aren't introduced.

An interesting retelling of the story of Medusa, reframing who the heroes and villains are.

I love a good feminist retelling and I've read another Medusa reimagining before. This one was not good compared to the other I had read previously. I liked some aspects like how most of the povs were female characters, but it was so slow and that many povs didn't add anything to the story. It didn't feel like the focus was supposed to be on Medusa. The ending was okay, liked how Athene "went home", but otherwise the ending was quite a letdown. I was hoping for so much in this and didn't get much of anything. Honestly with how slow it was, I should've dnf'd but I pushed through.

Certainly a new take on a Greek retelling, but I’m wondering if I really actually enjoyed the experience of reading this book. Almost all the characters, par the Gorgoneians, maybe, are quite unlikable; it makes it hard to connect with anyone in the story.

Also, I definitely expected to hear more of Medusa’s voice throughout the story, but… I feel like she’s barely here and there, just in small snippets in her own story…

Was… Just an okay read. Nothing amazing or truly memorable. It was easy to read, though. Perhaps the writing style wasn’t for me (as in, the author speaking directly to the reader via a character in the book.) Sad, as I usually really like Greek retelling.

The way the author performed the audiobook added a lot to the story.
