Read a few pages a night on the kindle to help me fall asleep- wasn’t overly engaging but kept my sustained interest over many months to find out what happened.

Excellent start to a new series. As always, the characters build the story and this book is long on characters. The main character, Cormoran Strike, is fleshed out throughout the book but he is immediately interesting. His gal Friday in the book, Robin is also a pleasure to discover. The pacing of the book is excellent and I was most interested to find out whodunit. Overall a very good read.

This genre is not normally my cup of meat but two friends suggested I give it a try and I quite enjoyed it. "Galbraith" has a masterful handling of character and even the secondary characters are fully painted and have a life of their own. You may guess the mystery, the clues are there, but that certainly does not diminish the enjoyment of the novel. I have the followup on hold at the library now.

Some great dialogue. Good writing. Excellent characters. A touch slow but no superfluous words. Well worth the read.

A typical detective novel. But I have to give credit where it's due, Rowling is the master of creating great characters.

2.5 stars. Slow paced. Superfluous writing throughout; could have been shorter. Too much unnecessary swearing.
Audiobook.

I thought this mystery novel was competent but definitely over-hyped. I found it slow-going mid way through, and I can't say the denouement was particularly surprising, but all in all it was satisfying. I find Galbraith/Rowling's writing style irksome at times. It hasn't changed or improved much since the Harry Potter books, but at least those tomes provided great story. This lesser work does not.

Memorable phrase: "when her mouth puckered into hard little lines around the cigarette, it looked like a cat’s anus."
