I waited almost 2 months for this book at my local library and it was worth the wait. To see the horror of the Holocaust through the eyes of a Jewish child was something that will stay with me for a long time. The story was gripping albeit devastating knowing that it could have actually happened and there are likely true stories not so far from it. I highly recommend this book!
This book started off on a really high note, but about halfway through it kind of dropped off. It became less about Sarah and more about the modern day story which just wasn’t as good of a storyline. I’m glad I read it as I didn’t know about this important and sad event in history, I just wish there was more of Sarah’s story. Also, the modern day characters French husband really made me think negatively of French men, I’m not sure why that part was even in the story.

This book started off as a 5 star read and then quickly changed. The back story of Julia felt forced and very trivial to the rest of the story line. Once the chapters from Sarah’s POV stopped the book started lacking quality and the writing and story line really declined.

Some language, other iffy content. It was a compelling story and has prompted me to do some research on the subject of the book.
