3.5??

I found Sarah’s story and pov to be very captivating but I didn’t really care about Julia much. If her character and husband had been less annoying, I probably would have given this a 4/5.

"Forty-five-year-old Julia Jarmond, American by birth, moved to Paris when she was 20 and is married to the arrogant, unfaithful Bertrand Tézac, with whom she has an 11-year-old daughter. Julia writes for an American magazine and her editor assigns her to cover the 60th anniversary of the Vél' d'Hiv' roundups. Julia soon learns that the apartment she and Bertrand plan to move into was acquired by Bertrand's family when its Jewish occupants were dispossessed and deported 60 years before. She resolves to find out what happened to the former occupants: Wladyslaw and Rywka Starzynski, parents of 10-year-old Sarah and four-year-old Michel. The more Julia discovers—especially about Sarah, the only member of the Starzynski family to survive—the more she uncovers about Bertrand's family, about France and, finally, herself."

Just riveting. This historical novel tells a tale of disturbing French behavior towards Jews during WWII. I could not put this book down. The way the author blended the stories together was phenomenal. Her writing made me feel as I was part of the story. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. I so needed to read this book.

What a beautiful book! I was so drawn into the two stories and loved how they intertwined. I actually read this in one day and couldn't put it down. Tatiana has a beautiful way of pulling you in and making you feel for these characters. I can't wait to discuss this at book club!

I get what she was trying to do with two novels in one, but I feel like the modern times part was a little to Romance to fit in well with the tragedy of the Holocaust story. Still a quick read that reminds us what we are all capable of, both good and evil.

Heartbreaking book about the roundup of Jews during World War II taking place in France. I had never heard of the Vel' d' Hiv but found myself wanting to know more.

While the book if fiction, it reads like a historical fiction novel. The two stories intertwine beautifully. Sarah's Key is a sad yet worthwhile read.

Thank you Tatiana de Rosnay for writing a book that brings awareness to an event that so many don't know about. I loved the way de Rosnay created a fictional story from a historical event. The way that she weaved the two families together was engaging and made it a quick read. I'm a big fan of making sure the events of WWII don't get lost or neglected so when a book like this sheds light on a part of the war that needs to be talked about I'm all for it. This was a beautifully written story, showing all the levels of humanity.

I learned a lot about the Vel d'Hiv, I had no idea the extent of the situation. It was very touching and spoke to many different life situations.
