I enjoyed this story. It was not what I expected. They did not do a good job hating, just not admitting their true feelings.
4.5 🌟
This book...*sigh*
It's beautiful.
The guy is near perfection.
Damn I didn't expect to like it this much.
About the book:
A millionaire guy needs a green card to stay in the country. The girl needs the million dollars he's offering to escape the eviction notice for her grandma's house. Both as against the idea of love as they can get, having being burned in the past in their own way. If only things went according to plan...
My thoughts:
It's a hate - love romance, but not really. It's just got loads of witty banter and snarky comments that can crack you up and leave you with a besotted smile and also laughing out loud.
The guy... he's got his swoon moments *insert dreamy smile*
I loved how much attention he paid to her. How much he loved her.
I loved how strong the girl was. How fierce she was.
I did however want some more struggles put in their path to test their love and show their loyalty and feelings. But that would've made it more complicated and emotional. So I guess it's good without that too.
I loved how light hearted the story was and how funny and how sweet!
Pick this up if you're into hate- love romance without the actual hate, millionaire romance, fake marriage contracts and lots of angst! Wait did I miss out on the humour?! Oh how could I...it's the best!
Happy reading

HATE STORY is a marriage of convenience story that felt unlike any other. Nina and Max have their reasons for needing this kind of marriage, and their adamant nature of needing it to stay that way allowed this book to explore a great hate-love relationship between the two. As with any Nicole Williams' book, the writing was flawlessly done and sucked me into the story immediately. Nina's strong, guarded personality and Max's coldness never once put me off because Williams' gave us such deep insight into each character that it allowed me to fall for them instantly, regardless of their masks, and it gave them the ability to see one another through the fog.
Their chemistry and banter was a great battle of wits, filling the book with an addictive sexual tension and giving it a turn-the-page quality. HATE STORY is more than just the pay-for-marriage trope; it stands on its own and gives more than you expect to receive. Readers will love both characters and the journey they're taken on. Williams' never disappoints and I can't wait for what she does next.

I've been a fan of Nicole Williams' for years and Hate Story is one of my favorites. I love her writing. It's always funny, romantic and filled with emotion. I love her characters and the depth she always uncovers. Max and Nina enter into a contract. Be married for three years. In the end, Nina gets one million dollars, Max gets his green card. It's a win-win as long as their emotions don't get involved. Nina is an independent woman just trying to save her home. She's smart, sassy and hilarious. She needs to hate Max for this arrangement to work. She can't fall in love with her husband. Everyone who she's loved has left her. She won't fall in love. Max needs a no string marriage so he can stay in the US. He loves his home and is willing to do anything to stay here. The good thing about being tied to someone is that you can be yourself, so Nina and Max are being real with each other. Sharing their lives and pasts. But, will that make it harder to not get involved? Max and Nina have incredible chemistry. Their connection is so deep that they are both fighting their feelings. I loved watching them fight to not care. Fight to continue to hate. Fight to not love. Hate Story is a beautiful story about wanting love, trying to hate and getting what you need in the end. Max was perfect. He was strong, smart, caring, and has truly genuine feelings for Nina despite her own issues. And I loved his sexy accent!
He was pretty much female catnip in a six-foot-three bundle of ego and muscle.
So what? He had an ice butt. And a nice face. And a nice everything else in between. So he was fun to look at.
"Why would you want me?"
"Because every part of me wants every part of you. That's why."

Nina can handle a fake relationship and a fake marriage, as long as it is built on the foundation of hatred. Three years, a million dollars, and she get to keep her house while he gets to keep the country he's taken to calling home. They both have history with love, enough to know it doesn't exist, but the chemistry between them is strong and Max is so much more than just a guy in a suit seeking a green card. He's found his way under her skin and into her heart, even if she is too busy hating him to accept it.
Fire. That was all I saw when I looked at him. I was playing with it by agreeing to this kind of arrangement with him.
Talk about great characters and a fun story line. Nina is hard-headed, naive, and has a really entertaining POV when it comes to life. She's been gutted by life, her outlook is fairly bleak, but her fairy tale is the kind you fall in love with, because it's so deserved. Max is attractive, a total sweetheart, and definitely the kind of hero that readers will add to their book boyfriend lists. Then there's the story line; male seeks female, female needs money, an agreement is established. These two agree to all the things we're used to when it comes to rich men and less-than-wealthy females, but the difference is their off the charts chemistry. It is obvious from the moment these two see each other that something is there, though readers are only gifted with the feelings and can't see how they fit. I was in love with how delayed Nicole Williams was with giving the character's complete outward appearances, leaving us with only their agreement and general disdain for romance to worth with. It's all very emotionally charged, but obvious that the hate is only towards the general feeling and not at all towards one another. I had hope from the very first page that these two would make things work, because fate certainly put them together.
Afraid someone else might take you away from me, afraid something might happen to you, afraid you might take yourself away from me. Yes to all of it.
I had a good idea about what Hate Story would be about, you can't have two main characters with so much chemistry and only money making them a couple without the story being easy to predict, but Nicole Williams did an excellent job of taking a cliche story line and spicing it up. The timeline is fast paced, especially with character development; readers will be surprised when Nina stops being a brick wall and allows Max in, but the witty conversations and sexy smut that follows makes the whiplash worth it. These two have heat, passion, and the makings of a truly perfect couple. You have to love their crazy plan, mixed in with pasts, family members, outside opinions, and of course the threat of the government intervening. Its emotional and packed with energy, but it's also laugh-out-loud funny, cute, and an enjoyable afternoon read.
Then I set a match to it. It was nothing more than a mirage. A sleight of hand. It wasn't real. None of it.
For fans of marriage-of-convenience tropes, Hate Story by Nicole Williams is one to add to your list. There is never a dull moment with these two bantering characters and Nicole's excellent writing brings their hate story to life.
Feeling him touching me, feeling the way I was touching him, I got it now. Why women and men made such stupid decisions in the name of love.
