I need a Cupcake in my life! This book was soo good! Such an amazing story about trusting in God, yourself and those who want only the best for you. Redemption from the lowest points in life to the biggest accomplishments. This memoir had it all humor, trauma and revelation all rolled into one. Cupcake’s life is one no one should ever have to go through and yet she used her pain for purpose. Excellent read!

Not your run of the mill hardship/druggie-turned model citizen memoir. Cup is real, as real as they get. I am glad I red it.

This was the best book I've read this year 👏.  It's a emotional roller coaster literally.   My feelings were all over the place  but once I finished I was more than satisfied 😌 Now I have fallen back in love with reading again 💕 🤗

Heartbreaking. SUCH a good memoir. Highly recommend it. Just know there are some tough parts to read.

Great memoir of a woman who leads a disparaging life and manages to get it together. This story is compelling because it is so disbelieveable: by the age of 21 she is a drug and alcohol addict, a school drop out and a prostitute living either on the streets or with some execrable boyfriend.

She takes life by the horns and puts herself through college and ends up being a lawyer.

Great read. Very inspirational.

As many other reviewers have pointed out, Ms. Brown isn't the best writer, but I found her book - her STORY - incredibly engaging, and was able to look past what felt more like sitting down together for a cup of coffee to hear her narrative. It was hopeful and inspiring and thankfully not TOO preachy; as one reviewer wrote, she does not tell her story to inspire sympathy (although it's impossible not to feel it when reading about her formative years), but rather to inspire hope. Or, perhaps not even that - perhaps it's just to tell her story. She doesn't seem the type who wants to push anything on anyone else - she simply wants to share. Cupcake Brown, in her oddly disarming way, makes me want to be her friend.

A Piece of Cake will have you saying to yourself “well I guess my life is pretty good” about a hundred times over in the first 3/4 of the book. This biography was eye opening to say the least. Cupcake has been through it and then some and kudos to her for her achievements. My only complaint is that Cupcake attributes a lot of her triumph to her beliefs and God. As a person that doesn’t share that belief (but I would never deny anyone their right to their own beliefs), I feel like Cupcake should celebrate her achievement through her own strength, determination, and commitment to succeed.

I was loving this book up until the end when she started getting preachy. I would really like to read a memoir about someone that successfully kicked their habit and didn't once mention their faith. I was raped and beaten and on the brink of death but that's okay because GOD!
