I have this as an audiobook. OMG very hot and I love shape shifters. It’s a story I’ve listened to more than once.

The story revolves around Selene, a reclusive woman who is forced out her self-imposed isolation to come to the aid of Eve,a forensic pathologist who is attacked in the park. Being a good lesbian romance, the sparks fly and the two women fall in lust then love and much hot sex ensues. Outside of the romance is a serial killer storyline (the aforementioned attacker) and Selene's unexplained shape shifting abilities (how she saves Eve from the attacker).

Overall, a good lesbian romance, but not a fantastic urban fantasy or serial killer mystery/suspense. Selene's shapeshifting and empathic bond with Eve seemed underdeveloped - she just does it with no real explanation or mythos, no real backstory other than she hides the ability. It mostly came across as a plot device to get the women together/keep them together. The serial killer subplot seemed a bit flat and another plot device to get/keep the women together. Probably what irked me was that I'm not a fan of having the perspective of the serial killer presented as part of the narrative - and I have read a fair bit of crime/suspense novels, so my standards are high.

good writing (the best of Meghan O’Brien that I’ve read so far), complex characters, unique storyline, and gripping plot. wayyy too much “in the mind of a male psycho rapist serial killer” for my taste ESPECIALLY for a lesbian erotic novel.

reading segments from the killer’s POV was deeply disturbing and really detracted from the romance and erotic elements. that being said, erotic romance isn’t my preferred lesfic genre, so if threats of/acts of sexual and physical violence and torture of women doesn’t bother you as much as it does me, the book is otherwise well done and the empathic/sexual connection between the MCs is hot.

Not bad, overall, I liked the story and the characters. The only problem I had was the author's over use of the word 'pussy,' especially in what would otherwise be fairly romantic scenes. I was really into the story the first 60 pages, and the first usage of it completely knocked me out of it. Continued to do so throughout the rest of the book as well. Not that I have anything against the word itself, it just was very jarring.
