An incredibly well-written book by Gillian Flynn. Although all of her books are dark I think this one is the darkest. I had DNF’d it several years ago and just recently picked it back up. I remembered why almost right away. It’s a book that makes you viciously uncomfortable at almost every turn. This is not a book with a happy ending but it does have a fitting one. There are definitely major trigger warnings to go with this book.

amazing book and very descriptive like in a way i could understand but also have a very detailed picture of in my head. the ending was unexpected and i really liked the past/present thing as well as having different characters perspectives. took me so long to read but definitely a 5 star.

Like most Gillian Flynn novels, the story is largely carried by the gut-punch that occurs about 80% of the way through. This one isn't as effective as her others.

A good thriller that doesn't get too unsettling or dark. It has elements of gore, psychological twists, and mystery all blended together. Like many thrillers, there are some subplots that felt like they were there only for shock value without adding too much to the story. However, I wouldn't say they ruined the book. The writing is strong, visual, and keeps a nice pace.
