This is the second of Mr. Offerman’s books that I have read. Admittedly, I should have done more research and read this one first. Regardless, this is a highly entertaining read. If you are expecting a life story/musings exactly like Ron Swanson, be warned. Nick is a very different person from his well-known character. Yes, they both love the outdoors and a good scotch, but they are still vastly different. Nick writes in such a way that makes me want to be friends with him, even in sections that I do not completely agree with (certain musings begin to border on “old man yells at clouds). I honestly could have used this book years ago. There’s a lot of wisdom in here that I think we all could benefit from. I certainly have a long list of hobbies, books, movies, music, and media to look into now. I love a good biography/memoir, so this one is a must-read from me.

his perspective on life is something so valuable i’m glad he decided to write a book to share it. also he doesn’t give himself enough credit for how cool it is he voiced the CIA agent in gravity falls
This book really had its ups and downs. I enjoyed reading about Nick Offerman's life philosophies (a major reason I wanted to read the book) - following your passion in life rather than money, spending your time outdoors or on productive hobbies rather than staring at screens, finding happiness outside of work, etc. I also loved the chapters where he described his immense love for his wife. However, there were also just as many more unenjoyable parts of this book. I didn't like when his philosophies got too pushy or preachy (even if I agreed with some of them!), and the stories about his escapades in college were just boring and pointless. Overall, this book was disappointing to me - partly because Nick Offerman is not Ron Swanson (my own fault for assuming this) and partly because his style of humor doesn't translate well to the page. Do not expect a laugh out loud book if you decide to read this.
Reading this book I realized that Nick is about the same age as my oldest brother, which kind of blew my mind for half a second. I appreciate Nick's upbringing because it was similar to mine (rural N. IL). What I did not appreciate is his overly corn-fed, hokey tone. Dude. I get it. You're a hick from the sticks and you are proud of it. Even hicks have some "book learnin'". Come on, Nick! I like you! I admire your work! I enjoyed the stories here. But did you have to wrap the whole thing in corn pone? Jeeesh.
A fun insight to the life of a man many of us have come to appreciate.

Nick Offerman's memoir of his life so far is rich and very enjoyable. I resonated with how Mr. Offerman thinks about things, and i appreciate his no-bullshit approach of sharing his life and philosophy. I really appreciate the depth yet plain language with which he discusses many topics important (maybe too much so) to all of us. I am looking forward to reading more of his books in the future, as well as following him in Internet venues. This is a great read, leaving me much to ponder, and room to grow, even at my advancing age :) Loved it.

Man I love Nick Offerman so much and his voice can (and did) put me to sleep. But this just didn’t hold my interest even on a road trip.
