This is an exquisitely told dual perspective enemies-to-lovers vampire tale.
I was lost in the pages from the moment I started until the very end - If I was a father reader, then this would have been a book finished in a single sitting. The world in which the story takes place is not particularly complex, as it takes place in a small village. Despite this, the other does a very good job setting the stage. I felt like I was part of the Fuentes family, living in their home, visiting the village, and hunting vampires alongside them.
Carolina is fierce and determined. She will stop at nothing to be noticed by her family as a vampire hunter and not someone to be married off to someone in the city. Lalo just wanted revenge for the death of his parents and is instead cursed to live as that which he despises most. With his sister (and research) in tow, he escapes the city - and his tormentor - to find a way to break the curse. This brings him to the very town inhabited by the Fuentes family, cue ominous music. Lina and Lalo are natural enemies drawn to one another with inexplicable chemistry. Did I mention that we have some highly unlikely fake dating here too? maybe even some star-crossed lovers? This book just has IT ALL! Including an intriguing mystery behind the vampire curse as well and how to stop it.
This book contains moment after moment - swoony and meaningful/inspirational. I have so many quotes highlighted in my ebook that I will tab in my physical copy. This book deserves a spot on my shelves. I definitely see myself reading this again and recommending it to everyone.
Many thanks to Penguin Random House Canada/ Joy Revolution and NetGalley for a digital review copy of the book. The opinions expressed are honest and my own.

I went into this book blind, and wasn’t sure if I would like it….I absolutely LOVED it!!! I was hooked from the get-go and enjoyed the story so much. Adding this author to my list of favorites!

This had so much potential to be a banger but i think it started to fall short around the halfway mark. The premise and the details are all there but something about the elements didnt click together.

The setting is great, and honestly the characters are fun too. I personally enjoyed Lalo more than Carolina. He was funny and the way he talked was sending me. Carolina was a good fmc though like she was stabby and NOT stupid. Stabby with intent and actually was able to follow through on her threats which we love to see.

I think the length of this book worked against it. We spent so much time building the interactions between Lalo and Carolina that like....the whole subplot (main plot?) about them breaking the curse was the B plot until suddenly in the last 25% of the story things have to go to 100 in order to break the curse. Like the pacing of the story was wildly off. It wasnt unenjoyable but you definitely feel how much ground the author had to cover by that last quarter.

The romance was very PG which was cute sometimes and like too sugary sweet at others. This book is def YA and stayed firmly in that lane, but I would like to see this concept explored in an adult book i think. I really did enjoy it but the pacing sort of made me start to lose interest by the end.

It was fun cute read though so like, it delivered on that.

4.5 rounded up! Angela Montoya has delivered another addictive romance with characters to love and root for, a story unlike any I've read before that made me laugh and cry. Carolina and Lalo stole my heart with their enemies-to-fake-engagement and this unique take on vampires was such fun and gave us excellent worldbuilding. This follow up to Sinner's Isle has me convinced, I'll read anything Angela writes!
