I really liked this book. It did not always read like a woman's journal, but it was a great tale!

I really did enjoy this book, the style and the writing and the story. The only issue I have is that it’s written by a white man. That being said it seems to be well researched and there is no claim of realness, other than inspiration. It is a harrowing story and is upsetting in more ways then one, but in ways that need to upset people. We are in a time where thinking and seeing perspective and history in general is being made a joke of. If fictional stories make us truly think and realize what is actually happens, makes use search deeper for real truth from real people, then that is a book I am proud to read.

Loved it! This was a book I read on my summer to-read list and I finished it one week shy of the start of fall. I really enjoyed the tale of May Dodd and was pleasantly happy with the way the book ended. Often I find novels written in journal or diary form difficult or annoying to read. This book read smoothly. The author did a wonderful job of depicting life living as a Native American during the US assault on the tribes and forced reservations. In the end I was wishing that May Dodd had actually lived, as her story was just amazing. If historical fiction is the genre of books you enjoy reading. This book will not disappoint.

I loved this book so much... Sara's death gave me Melancholia for days. Overall, it was artfully written.

Wow! What an amazing book. From the first page I felt as if I was right there amongst the characters. Great character development throughout the entire book. So many unique characters in this novel and yet you feel as if you know each and every one so well. Highly recommend this to all who enjoy historical reads!

DID NOT FINISH: 16%

I didn't like the constant racial slurs and condescending way the author viewed women.

Yuck. Had to read for a book group and would not recommend!
