Very interesting concept & this book brought me back to when I first started reading for fun & was obsessed with this historical fiction series.

Honestly made me question myself to a certain extent regarding my own biases toward indigenous Americans.

I liked the idea but the ending sucked.

Sparked my interest in reading about the Native Americans.

I don't really even know what to say about this book. It was an interesting concept and premise, but it came with some complex feelings as it attempted to put us in the mindset of a time and place in American history that wasn't looking through the lens of today's understanding. However, I still would have liked to have May Dodd reflect a little more on her preconceived notions about the Native Americans that she came to know and call family. I didn't like that in the end it felt like we busted right back to the idea of "savages." It also felt like it couldn't land in the space of comedy vs. tragedy. I just felt kind of gross at the end.

One Thousand White Women-3⭐️- details the life of May Dodd over the years she embarked on a government program with the Cheyenne Indians where they traded 1000 horses for 1000 white women in order to merge peacefully with the US. It was well written, but the characters and subject matter just wasn’t up my alley when it comes to historical fictions…which, can it even be called that since the brides act never happened? Idk. I also always have an issue when male writers write women characters because they just don’t understand the inner workings of the female brain and it always comes off wrong and off.
