One of my new favorite fantasy stories - Leila is hilarious but kind and strong-willed, her cohorts are fun and caring, and the plot slowly spirals into something more serious. Plus, gotta love a slow-burn romance with an assassin, right?

“Yep. Okay. My life is already a burning dumpster fire. What could a political marriage do to make it worse?”

Loved it

I had no idea what to expect with this book, but I'm delighted. Leila and get storyline talked into the same world as Hazel's did, and I really love her attitude.

Great book!

I loved this book! But when I started it, I honestly thought I probably wouldn’t read very much of it. I haven’t liked any of the fae books I’ve tried; I know they are popular, but I just don’t like them. But I wanted to try this one because I read Hazel’s series and I was curious about what happened next. K. M. Shea did a great job with this book! I loved Leila and her sarcastic wit, and I am really looking forward to reading the other books in the series!

this was fun and a nice return to the world of wizard Houses etc! i actually need to go back and finish reading Hazel's story, I think.

I always appreciate a well written take on Faerie and this was lovely! the plot was engaging and the worldbuilding and magic was interesting too. it's not stressfully action packed and was a nice gentle reintroduction to published fiction after my last month of solely consuming fanfiction.

I was genuinely surprised with this book.

But first, let me sell you on this book, it all starts with a failed assassination attempt, where the handsome but deadly fae assassin fails to kill the half-fae half-human girl because she has been chosen to be the new queen of his realm, a fact neither of them know nor are happy about.

Sounds interesting? I thought so ;)

I love fae books but with the popularity, in recent years a lot has already been done and sometimes it gets tiring to read the same books over and over again.
BUT this book? Wauw, I have honestly never read a book about fae like this and I loved it.
Everything from the world-building, the pacing, the secrets, the way Leila was chosen, to Leila in general!
I loved her personality and all her plans, not to mention the way she just goes imma do it my way or not at all! LOVED that!

It is such a refreshing spin on fae and the chosen one and so on and it has become one of my favourite books, I think I read all three books in less than 24 hours and honestly, I have reread them since cause this book is funny, magical, empowering to women, surprising and a real page-turner.

So if you love fae, sarcastic female leads, deadly (and handsome) assassins, a magical world with different kinds of creatures and a plot to kill the new queen no matter what, this is the book for you.

I had a lot of fun reading this one. Love the night mares and all the other animals. The fae were the tricky backstabbing pricks we knew they would be but their new Queen is more than their match. I truly enjoyed her. What a Queen she will be.
