Satrapi's blunt style of narrating typical teen idealism while acknowledging her own privilege allows a reader to empathize with a 12-year-old who was forced to grow up too quickly and miss out on her childhood experiences. As someone who is deeply interested in history and culture, her raw portrayal of Iran was at some points an eye-opener for me, particularly when it comes to Iran's political history.

I honestly didn’t know what I was getting into when I first opened this book. But I really enjoyed it! I certainly learned a lot and I feel the characters were very relatable! I’ll definitely be checking out the sequel
