TJR packs so much emotion into such a short story! Which is a talent... because short stories can have a hard time getting deep. Loved this quick read, but honestly I love everything she writes.

Quite a short and sweet little story, if a little bit saccharine for my tastes. I did enjoy it a lot though, and I thought the letter format was a lovely way to tell the story.

I’ve given this 4 stars because I really liked it and found it very cute, however I don’t think it was doing anything particularly interesting with the theme or language, and I wasn’t wowed. It was just a nice way to kill half an hour, but for Taylor Jenkins Reid, it wasn’t as strong as I would have expected.

It is amazing how in less than one hour’s worth of reading, I was able to experience a complete story. TJR is a brilliant writer; this novella is told entirely through an exchange of letters between a woman who finds love letters in her husbands briefcase and decides to write to the woman’s husband and then shares the letters with him. So begins penpal type of friendship.

The story takes place in the late 70s. I have only ever read one other book by TJR-Daisy Jones and the Six-but I loved how she referenced Daisy Jones in this short story. I have heard that she references her other novels in her books. I want to start reading all her books from first publication to current.

This novella was published in 2018, I suspect that the story is an expansion on a character in one of her other books.

A wonderful and quick read that will bring tears to your eyes.
