As much as it's great to get new Dresden stories, I'm not sure the comic book style does it justice - possibly because it messes with my image of some of the characters in my head. The story here is good, although given its scope, the "retcon" of where it fits seems odd as the events within aren't every discussed in the main novels (obviously, it was written afterwards) and the art is quite good too, but overall I wasn't really excited by it in any particular fashion. It's good, not great, not terrible, but on the whole, I don't think Dresden fans will miss anything by skipping it.

Love the Dresden Files and slowly reading these short stories/comics is a fantastic hit in the withdrawal I am feeling wait ever so impatiently for the next book.

Since I am having major Dresden withdrawl I finally decided to pick up the graphic novels. I love the series and hoped these stood up to the quality I am used to . I do I have to say that I was not dissappointed. This graphic novel was amazing. I loved the artwork and the story. It was a fast paced and added some interesting side stories to the characters we know and love.

23.05.2020 I’m a big fan of the Dresden Files, but I didn’t like that one very much. Part of the lower rating is, that I read it in German and it simply doesn’t sound like the original. I’m not overly fond of the art style either. I’ll read the English version next and have a look if that’s better...

24.09.2020 The English version is much better than the German one, still not too fond of the artstyle but the overall experience is much better. I rate a 4.5 on the English version.

Set four months after [b:Dead Beat|17683|Dead Beat (The Dresden Files, #7)|Jim Butcher|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1345667776s/17683.jpg|6614452], I was naturally curious about Harry Dresden's Warden adventure, as it's hinted at that major things were happening behind the scenes which the books only hint at.

In War Cry, a graphic novel, we meet the Wardens that Harry leads into his first big mission for - Ramirez, Wild Bill Meyers, and Yoshimo, a mission to protect mortals and their secrets from the Red Court, a mission which leads into a night or battle and nightmares - but luckily, Harry's brother Thomas Raith makes a appearance, and stands by Harry's side against the Red Court- and against a thing from beyond the Outer Gates.

There is also a peek to the confirmation of Harry's suspicions of someone within the White Council's Senior Council having ties to the "Black Council" of wizards.

[b:Jim Butcher's The Dresden Files: War Cry|23137382|Jim Butcher's The Dresden Files War Cry|Jim Butcher|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1412295629l/23137382._SX50_.jpg|42904159] The second new Dresden comic!

It almost feels like a bottle episode in that it's very limited in scope, but the action and explosions certainly would have cost a fair penny. There's something underhanded going on, an attack by hundreds of red court vampires, and Dresden coming into his role as a mentor warden. It's pretty good.

War-Cry-1-Yoshimo

It's funny because things break down around Wizards. I wonder why they don't have a better way than running? Nice to see Yoki Yoshimo. We haven't seen her since Dead Beat and in the main series, nothing other than a comment in White Night as Dresden tries to trace down the history of the Swords[^king].

War-Cry-2-Sterotypical-red

It's greatly amusing to me how stuck old creatures can get in their ways.

Finally, fairly major spoilers to the plot:

It's fascinating to see an actual
shoggoth
in the series for what I think is the first time. We've had increasingly many hints about
Outsiders and truly alien beings
, but is this the first time chronologically that we've seen something quite like this? It's pretty crazy.

[^king]: As a random aside, it's interesting how big a deal is made of the Swords go to someone descended from a King. Basically everyone is. Is Everyone a Descendant of Royalty?

Another graphic novel installation, another new artist. This was one of my least favorite of the art I have seen so far. It can be because I liked the one in Ghoul Goblin and did not appreciate a change in artist again. I find it a shame because in terms of the story, War Cry is more related to the novel than Ghoul Goblin is. We actually see some of the wardens and it would have been cool to see them done justice. I found the art messy and distracting, it could have used a whole lot more polish. We have 2 page spreads that in regular  comics is supposed to highlight the action and the art but in this case just exposes the lack of finesse in the art

A plus for this book is definitely seeing more of the characters from the novel and that this tackles events in the novel series like the War with the Red Court. I was excited to see Thomas but sadly, the art....we come back to that point again
