My last book of 2021 ended the year on a great note.

House of Eclipses has a similar theme to The Bridge Kingdom. Noor (the FMC) is tough on the outside, forced to hide all emotion from her horrible father but soft and sweet on the inside.

The world that Casey Bond created is beautiful. One half of the world lives in eternal day while the other half lives in eternal night.

I loved the backstory of the gods that Bond shares and how that plays out in the whole book. I loved the magic system and of course loved Caelum's sweetness. A true YA book, this is a fade to black with a great romance.

Some of the following may be considered spoilery. Proceed with caution if you care. You’ve been warned.

Okay, I felt like this story started out promising. I was intrigued by the world-building, the murderous/abusive Aten (king), and the premise of Noor and her sister being threatened to bring back the moonlight crown from the Lumin (king of another country basically). Sounds like a good set up, right? Like I could see Noor slowly falling for the Lumin as she searched for the crown and maybe betraying him.

Well…that is not what happened.

Some insta love went on which is not my favorite trope. I did enjoy Noor and Caelum’s characters, but they were together and comfortable too fast. No tension or angst.

Literally everything in this story goes correctly for the main characters. It’s all just smooth sailing. Noor and Caelum are honest with each other from the get-go. Any plans they have work perfectly. EVEN THE ENDING IS SO PERFECT. No conflict or struggle.

Also, there is kind of a story within the story about the sun goddess (Sol) and moon god (Lumos) and why they were separated and then at the end it’s like, oh we talked to the sculptor and everything is good. What?!

I’m actually disappointed in the lack of energy put into this story because I think it really could have been good. But honestly the more I think about this book, the more I dislike it and my current rating is probably being generous and may go down in the future if I ever think about this book more.

And this is officially the longest review I’ve ever written for a book I didn’t even like, so I’ll stop rambling now. Don’t recommend.

Another Kindle Unlimited read. Two stars isn’t awful, two stars on goodreads is “it’s okay.” And it is. It started off strong, rooting for the underdog and the setting was cool. But what I didn’t love was the insta love. Not a fan of that trope. There was a good outline and start to the characters but I wanted more depth and more time for feelings to develop- not just hours. To be fair- I LOVE a slow burn romance and the tension so, just not my jam.

A fast favorite.

Bonds beautiful world building and story telling is matched perfectly with incredibly raw, relatable and exceptional characters.

It's been a hot minute since I read something that wasn't riddled with spicey scenes, and to be honest I'd forgotten how much I enjoy a good, established story.

House of Eclipses sees us diving into a world that feels familiar, with intricate social structures and belief systems, incredible characters whom we get to grow and develop along side.

Following along with Noor, the third born and despised daughter of an abusive father. We see her grow and blossom from a scared and broken creature into a strong woman, taking her power and discovering herself, finding a fated love along the way.

I have so much love for Noor, Caelum, Beron, and even Citali. This book has devoured something in my heart that others seem to have only sampled.

I almost DNF'd this book several times but it was so short I decided to just push through it.

I feel like the story could have been flushed out more. The idea of it was great but the execution felt lacking. I didn't feel connected to any of the characters outside of the MC.

Not for me.

Too much insta attraction that turned love way too fast. I just didn't enjoy the pacing or the direction of this book. It all wrapped up too cleanly and the conflict was anticlimactic. Was not a fan of some of the plot choice and definitely wasn't a fan of some of the side characters.
