My dad recommend this book to me saying it was about a Jewish Olympic woman swimmer in the '36 Olympics in Germany who begins to date a SS Officer out of fear for her life and ends up marrying him... He later finds out...

To my surprise, the woman swimmer does go to the '36 Olympics and does fall in love w a German guy, but there is no threat. Legit. Also, she is not Jewish...

The writing is really good, and the relationships are dear.

It took a little while to really get started, but the history of the 1936 Olympics was certainly interesting. I found the story was a little difficult to read. Sydney Longfellow tells her story to her son, Teddy. So the story is interspersed with interjections where she is addressing her story and I really just wanted her to dig into the meat and potatoes of it all and get on it with it. Once she did it was a good read, but like I said, it took some time to get there. Generally, I think anything by Frank DeFord is worth reading. _An American Summer_ is a long time favorite of mine.

The story was really great! I wasn't such a big fan of how it was written - a lot of sometimes hokey back and forth and sometimes just entirely "typed". It seems like it could be already written as a script for a movie or something. And it would make a good movie.

I enjoyed the story and suspense of the main character, but found the love story very simplistic, i.e. "we just fell in love" Additionally, I found the story as recounted by her to her son to disjoint the story.
