The Blood Sugar Solution Cookbook: More Than 175 Ultra-Tasty Recipes for Total Health and Weight Loss

This book seemed unrealistic, and even worse, elitist. The basic principles of eating whole food, upping your non-starchy veggies, and moderation in meat certainly hold true, but there were some statements that raised red flags for me as a nutrition scientist (e.g., that GMOs are proven to cause cancer).
Many people suffering from poor nutrition are of limited financial means. This book definitely has an elitist and political agenda, and just doesn't follow common sense or "progress over perfection".
For those who aren't die-hard food snobs, I would recommend the Mayo Clinic's diabetes diet book.

Excellent recipes and a great plan to help with overall health.
Since completing Hyman's 10-day sugar detox over a month ago, at least 80% of my meals have been from this book. I love that I have a go-to cookbook I can trust to get meals that taste good and are balanced. There is a large variety in types of meals, styles and ingredients (most of which are easy to find at a standard grocery store). Recipes are simple and generally quick to prepare (the estimated cook time is helpful). I've tried a lot of the meals and so far only had two that were busts, in my opinion. Pro tip: the chocolate peanut butter cups are addictive and you will want to make them all the time because they're so quick and fairly healthy.
I like that the book has the design it does rather than being a glossy cookbook because I think it helps drive home that the recipes are medically beneficial. The downside is that because of the name and design, it's made me second guess whether I'd want to give this as a gift because it just doesn't seem...gift-y enough.

While I'm not exactly the target audience for this book, I am enjoying the recipes. They are well-rounded, include fat from good sources, and are quite tasty. The shopping lists and detailed explanations are very helpful and it's great that Hyman includes places to buy the ingredients he prescribes. Unfortunately they do not apply to everyone, such as people living in small towns, far from large city centres, or not in the US, but that is not Hyman's fault.
The philosophy he presents sounds very catchy but is nothing new. It is not some revolutionary system. It is just a healthy diet. I have no doubt that following his system will help people lower their blood pressure, lose weight, be healthier, etcetera, because it is a healthy diet. But nothing more.
Also, diabesity isn't a thing.

Tried a few of the recipes and love them! The chili with quinoa is great and the energy bars are amazing. I can't wait to try more.
