Adorable and heartfelt sapphic YA romance, which addresses homophobia in two very different communities, as well as issues of racism and cultural appropriation. Adiba Jaigirdar is a must-read author for me.

It was a sweet story of a young desi queer girl and I loved that part, about being queer and being Bengali, and the journey of the parents with Nishat's coming out felt true to some extent. I don't truly know how many desi parents would let their queer child be, but I'm hopeful it's more than what I know. I saw the twist about how things got out coming, but that was okay.
I did feel like the coming out was forgiven way too fast, but that's just me.

It was cute and I want more, more desi queer representation.

I will admit i am clearly not the demographic for this book, This is marketed to teens and I it's written for them, emotionally driven, simple language and shorter chapters and it's a nice read.

all the mentions of Bengali culture, the good stuff, the bad stuff was all done brilliantly and very earnest, however the narrator of the audiobook was monotonous so all of the scenes felt the same tonally.

I think the audiobook I was reading was the American version, or edited for the American narrator because at one point narration mentions Irish autumn weather being a "chilly 37 degrees". Ireland uses Celsius and so does Bangladesh to my knowledge so hearing 37 degrees as being chilly confused me. 37 Celsius is heatwave level hot.
I also think that the outing was too quickly forgiven, I don't think it really sunk in how dangerous being outed can be.

Pretty enjoyable overall! Nishat and Flávia are very very cute. Nishat is a great MC even though
she seems to really take her supposed best friends for granted? What’s up with that😭 other than towards the very end does it seem like this girl care about her friends among the other people in her life which I thought it was wild even with everything she was going through.
. Still I love the Bengali + Brazilian rep in this book and the very much real disappointment that comes when ppl aren’t initially accepting of who you are (and how they might surprise you with love later on💙)
