Love this story, spanning decades with friends in a book club.
This is one of my favorite books ever... it made me laugh, cry, get pissed, shout HA! in triumph, laugh, cry, and laugh some more. These women characters make me wish I could jump into the book and live the story with them all, as one of them, as their friend or family or neighbor... anything to be part of this wonderful dichotomy. I can see some of my own qualities in each of them. I've read it three or four times, and probably will another twenty times in my lifetime, but I can honestly say it will never be boring, and I will never want it to be over. I love the Angry Housewives! :)
A little disappointed in the ending but an enjoyable read.
This book was great. I would recommend it to everyone. I loved getting caught up in the character's lives. Just a fabulous book!
Myself and my book club really liked this one. The book spans over 30 years and numerous books. It makes me want to hit some of those classics, Heart of a Lonely Hunter, etc. that I just missed. It also brought back fond memories of some of my favorites, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, etc. But the most significant part is that of her characters. From the devoted and crafty, Kari to the liberal and stubborn Slip. This book ranges from all different types of women and brings them together to discuss life, family and love. They are fiercely protective of one another, enough to make you jealous of that type of friendship. We see marriages, divorce, illness, lies, births, death, breakups, snow ball fights, and lots and lots of drinking and eating. I love their adventure through the years as seen through books. You really get to see the whole picture of each character through the eyes of her dearest friends.
How did this get on my kobo book list? I thought that perhaps someone had recommended it to me so I gave it a shot. A 10 year old must have been writing it since each important character was given a few paragraphs which described her appearance and her background. There was not even a whiff of a plot. I didn't even bother to get through all the introductions. Life is too short. (no stars)
Liked this book. Author has mn references in all her books & fun to read about group of women in a neighborhood & their lives. Reminded me of our own book club.
