I don’t have much to say. The whole thing seemed anti-climatic and overly greedy. Also the heroine was SO DUMB. Just so dumb. I did like Mobster Eddie though. He makes it 3.5 stars!

“Have you ever wondered how long it takes to dig a grave? Wonder no longer. It takes an age. However long you think it takes, double that.”
I've been meaning to read Something In The Water for quite some years now, so when I saw that it fitted one of the final prompts for the Beat The Backlist Bingo challenge I decided it was the perfect excuse to finally do so. I do love a thriller with a travel element, so the Bora Bora setting was definitely a bonus... But the premise of this story itself sounded like a lot of fun as well. Things started out VERY well and I was already starting to wonder why this book had such a low rating, but let's just say that the second half definitely solves that mystery in particular. Don't get me wrong, the premise itself has a lot of potential, but I can't say that I particularly liked the direction the story took after the couple returned to London. This is when things went downhill fast for me, which is a shame because this cat-and-mouse game could have been the best part of the story... Instead, I only started to get more and more frustrated with our main character and narrator Erin. She basically makes one absurdly stupid decision after the other, while also not seeing what is happening right under her own nose... I get that she is in love and all, but the way her new husband treats her alone should have raised major red flags. Anyhow, basically my eyebrows worked overtime in the second half, and somebody digging Erin's grave would probably have been a more credible ending with all the foolish things she does. I can't deny that I did highly enjoy the first part of the book though, and that prologue is absolutely fantastic. Something In The Water ended up being a book of two halves for me; brilliant start, but it fizzled out once the couple is back from their very eventful honeymoon.

Solid 3.5 - 4 star book! I was not in love with the main character/narrator, but somehow the book captured and held my attention!
Really enjoyed the bulk of this book. Complete plot twist in the end which I always love but I wish I could understand more of the ending. I don’t love how it ended if I’m being honest.. it felt like it was building up to something wild and it just kinda fell flat for me. Hard to explain without giving away spoilers.
This was a fast-paced, realistic story that posed questions that had me wondering: what choices would I make if in such a situation? Would I have done differently than newlyweds Erin and Mark? The situation of happening upon a wreckage while scuba - quickly devolved into life or death situations and choices that would have long-lasting consequences.
Can't say much more without spoilers, but I do recommend this book.

I just couldn’t get into the book. The beginning was very boring and I found myself getting bored and uninterested awfully fast. There was no “hooks” to keep me going. You would read about 10-15 pages or boringness to then have one good page and then it would go back to anticlimactic. The storyline of the book seemed really good, which is why I picked up the book in the first place, but it was drawn out too much that it became uninteresting. I also figured out what the main climax of the book was and it never gets resolved which makes me sad. I did flip to the end of the book and tried to “finish” it from there but also still found myself forcing myself to read it.
