I enjoyed this one a little more than the first book, mainly I preferred the two main characters and their relationship more.

Having never read Spoiler Alert, I was unsure of what to expect when I decided to pick up All The Feels. I knew it was a book I could easily immerse myself in, I’ve been reading romances a lot more recently.
Alex and Laura’s chemistry is one that I haven’t seen in any of the romances I’ve read recently. Despite their complete opposite personalities they bounce off of each other in beautiful ways that work great. I can’t tell you the amount of times I squealed at their unknowing flirtations and got frustrated with their complete obliviance to each others feelings. Can we talk about the BANTER too?? They’re both so actively hilarious, with Lauren and her snarky comebacks that make Alex swoon and Alex with his fanfiction.
My favorite part wasn’t the romance, however, it was the incredible character building that both Alex and Lauren go through as they progress their relationship. With Alex’s ADHD causing over-empathetic problems that Lauren isn’t completely used to, the use of boundaries and the crossing or non-crossing of those boundaries is both realistic and a breath of fresh air to see in a romance novel. Lauren’s passive nature to a fault and Alex’s empathy and protectiveness clashed in a way that made me fall absolutely in LOVE with them. These characters feel like they interact with the world as well as each other, especially with Alex’s contributions to abused women and children and that connection to the writers of Gods of the Gates. Although it’s a subplot to their romance it still feels so eloquently tied into it, not just something to make sure the romance isn’t overwhelming. Lauren’s own connection to being abused by her cousin, and her defiant way of handling it is a beautiful way to make it feel more personal to her character.
Also spice. That’s it. That’s the comment.
Overall, this is my favorite romance novel of the entire year and I cannot wait for more people to give it a read!

Yall my brain fucked me up reading this book.

I liked the characters. Alex’s chaos paired well with Lauren’s order and grounding. And I love the focus on fat and not conventionally attractive folks finding real romance. This series is my first dip into Olivia Dade’s books, and I feel like this representation would have done me a world of good as a child.

All these positive things being said, I want to reiterate that this issue was entirely my own and made me feel like a goddamn bully. I am horrible at visualizing characters. Human features are generally not my strong suit, so I usually rely on images from the cover, picturing the characters are indistinct humanoids with the vague features I can visualize like height, hair, clothes, etc., or I tend to picture well known faces (I once read a book where the MMC was a werewolf on a decades old teen supernatural drama which meant the entire time he was Seth Green/Oz to me). I mostly get how Lauren was supposed to look, honestly probably less conventionally attractive than the cover since people consistently called her ugly and the cover woman is a cutie patootie. I really tried to stick with that image, but when they said she is: avian, has a beak-like nose, quite fat, and has limbs that are kind of skinny for her larger body, I could only picture one person. Danny DeVito as the Penguin. I just love Danny DeVito and that era of Batman films, okay. So then the whole time I kept visualizing DD as the Penguin which got… weird. I literally had to pull up a larger version of the cover to try and reset my brain. Which to be clear, I would not have told Lauren that if she were a real human, and she deserves love and respect even if she did look like the Penguin! I just did not want to picture the Penguin with Alex. Okay, that’s my rant and how I ruined my experience via my love of Danny DeVito and old Batman movies.

Also, as a fellow Kathleen, shame on her aunt for being the kind of boy mom who hypes up her mediocre son and lets him think he can do no wrong. This Kathleen could never.
