DNF’ed early on. The narrator for the audiobook is not well suited for the book. (I’m trying to be nice here, but I thought she was awful.) Plus the characters had little to no chemistry. Life is too short and my tbr is too long to finish bad books.

Though I favored the first book in the series, since it didn't overuse the terms "round", "harpy", and "shrew", many of the same elements that I enjoyed in the previous book were also present in this book (which I feel the original title, "Slow Burn", was a more appropriate title and don't understand why it was changed). This book also has a male protagonist who has a disability that is also depicted pretty accurately, and a female protagonist who has a successful professional career and also happens to be fat. As others have mentioned, it does seem to make too many excuses for Alex and how he speaks about and toward Lauren that reminds of me of the gaslighting many girls experienced as children when told not to get upset because "the boy is being mean/teasing you because they like you". Those parts in the book was frustratingly difficult to get through at times. Yet the book still maintained my attention as several aspects of the characters and situations in the book reminded me of my relationship with my husband, and I was eager to learn what choice Lauren made in terms of both her career and her relationship with Alex. Overall, I have enjoyed the Spoiler Alert series, despite the above misgivings, and can't wait to read the next in the series!

Gah. I really wanted to like this. Appreciate the lack of needing to “fix” the fat girl and that part of the story. But ultimately it wasn’t the romance story for me.
the actual story and approach just felt slow, the first 50% of the book dragggggged and the 2nd half was only marginally better. Both characters actually felt like they had legit history to overcome, the storybook itself was there, but it failed to ultimately deliver for me. 2nd Olivia Wade book I tried and same result. Not for me.

I love how more plus size romance novels are coming out. Representation matters! And I loved how Lauren was in this book. I have been plus size for most of my adult life and I know what she feels when she just tries to hide away from everyone and minimize not only the space she takes up, but her worth. I love the journey she went on to realize her worth and I love love loved Alex helping build her up. I love how he loved every part of her body. But Alex wasn't perfect either, he had some part of his personality that he had to work on. But somehow the two of them work and I am so happy that I read this book.
I’m in the minority of people who liked this book better than Spoiler Alert. I really loved both of these characters, their relationship and their banter. I understand the criticism of Alex’s inner monologue re Lauren’s looks but I think it’s also realistic given Alex’s world and his impulsivity. I love that not only do we have a fat heroine, but a heroine who is not conventionally attractive and she gets a hot ass love story. Olivia Dade writes fat (and not conventionally attractive) heroines with such depth, honesty and thoughtfulness. I also really appreciate the storytelling of compassion fatigue and burn out that we get through Lauren’s character arc.
