I actually hated this book. The only reason I gave it three stars is because of the smiley face on page 400. I hope the next book is better.

Okay so I have so many mixed feelings for this book so hang with me. I have a degree in psychology with a minor in criminal justice, and I work in the field now- this is relevant I promise.
So, the first book was amazing. I loved everything about it. I felt like the writer really gets into the mind of a psychopath, which is really hard for many to do. The writer was able to do this in the second book but almost too much. There were scenes and some things that Joe (main character) said or thought that made me feel uneasy <- this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. When reading this genre, many people like the uneasy feeling. But this book reminds me a lot of the mentally ill people I work with, almost to a ‘T’.
The book is so overly detailed and trails off to a point that I feel it looses everything the first book built up. It almost felt like a bunch of random interactions with different people. There was constantly something going on or going wrong for Joe. He was constantly almost getting himself caught to the point where I felt it was predictable.
I ended up getting like 48% through the book then DNF it.

The ending felt like there's going to be another one. Which would be amazing.
The novel did slow down in the beginning when two new characters were introduced, but then the story improved. I really liked it. I would read the sequel if there's another one.

I still can't get over how much I like this character. Although not as edge-of-your-seat for me, this book was different enough from the first that I was very interested in what would happen. I'm even sitting here wishing and wondering if there will be a 3rd book.

Highly disappointing...
Took me so long to get through this as every time I would start reading it again, I was reminded how little I was enjoying it.
