Worse than the first book, and probably not a good book on its own merit, but I was imagining the tv show the whole time and I think that made it better for me. Joe doesn't get any better from the first book, and in fact, he's more trigger-happy in this one, ready to kill anyone who looks at him wrong. This does become cartoonish and repetitive at a certain point. I also think they did Love much better in the show. She is very flat and unbelievable in the book, though the twist is the same and I did enjoy that.

If this book was just the beginning and the ending, it would be a magnificent novel. However, all the pointless murder in the middle just fuddle the idea of Joe Goldberg and his essence (and what he stood for "killing for love"). Basic plot premise: Joe meets Amy, Amy screws him over, and leaves for Los Angeles. Joe goes after Amy and eventually finds the love of his life with a girl named......(wait for it) Love. Love's brother's name is Forty. (And I thought I was the only one from a family of with strange names.). I just finished the Netflix series, "You" and was anxious to see what he was up to. I should have stopped while I was ahead. While it has some hilarious commentary on Los Angeles culture (having grown up there, it was greatly appreciated) as well as cutting satire on wealthy New Englanders, the sex scenes were silly and ridiculously written. (My favorite review was one person who said it was like a 12-year old wrote those scenes.) Sadly, I will be watching the second season of "You" in the hopes that they savage the book and plot with a rewrite.
