Great book, has the potential to change your perspective on the world. Has fed into my own thinking heavily, and I would recommend to others despite its hefty size. Explores the ideas of stoic philosophy and how one might incorporate these tenets into our lives in both a practical and meaningful way.

This would be an excellent priner for those unfamiliar with stoicism. It's a bit redundant for those who are.

DNF
found it a little too heavy going unfortunely as I do really like Derren Brown.

I think I would’ve enjoyed this book with far less theory and far more thought experiments, though that’s just coming from someone who read far too much unnecessary philosophy as part of my degree. Brown is obviously a very smart and thoughtful person and a lot of the ideas in this book turned my thought processes on their head. It’s not something to read lightly though- it takes time and effort!

Also, a lot of the recommendations are things that most self aware people would already know. But it’s one thing to be aware of the pervasive nature of your personal narrative and another to sculpt that in every day decisions. I do hope that some people who see happiness as a click bait, available and quantifiable “thing” will read this though- life really isn’t that simple.

Some interesting sections but far too long and repetitive for me.

Woefully and boring. Overly philosophical with very little tangible takeaways.

A calming and rational approach to the biggest fears we as individuals face, this book is invaluable. Every existentially anxious person must own a copy.

Happy currently holds the record for "most highlighted" in my entire library.
