Thank you to Wednesday books for the advanced copy.
Amelia Griffin is a young woman whose already lived her fair share of turmoil. As a result, she has found comfort in the company of her best friend, Jenna, and in the companionship of books.
One series in particular has provided solace over the years. It’s the Orman book series, written by an elusive teenage prodigy named N.E. Endlsey. Amelia has painstakingly poured over these books. Like any super fan, she would love to know more about the mysterious talent that created them. So when Amelia and Jenna get the chance to meet him, they understandably jump at the chance.
Unfortunately, Amelia’s hopes are dashed when she doesn’t get to meet the author as she planned. Other things in her life don’t go as planned either, leaving Amelia floundering more than ever before. Then a rare copy of her favorite book gets delivered, sending Amelia on a fantastical journey that’s better than any book.
The entire time I was reading Amelia, Unabridged I was reminded of something else I read that I just can’t seem to put my finger on. I also was taken aback by the beauty of Schumacher’s writing. This book is chock full of truisms and quotable lines. It also has great imagination and beautifully depicted imagery. I In a nutshell, this is a book for people who love books.
Amelia Unabridged is an impressive young adult debut from author Ashley Schumacher. I can’t wait to see what other journeys this author takes us on in the future!

"We're allowed to find ourselves in places, books, music, nature, but not in another human. We aren't allowed to mourn losing a pieces of ourselves for too long - especially when young - because we must learn to stand on her own two feet."
What an absolutely heartbreaking but wonderful story. Well-written and perfectly paced, there are solitary lines that absolutely took my breath away. There were at least 2 times that solo lines brought tears to my eyes. Chapter three was surprising.
I don't add many books to my Favorites list, but I am absolutely adding this one. I loved it.
An e-ARC was provided to me by the [a:Ashley Schumacher|19425626|Ashley Schumacher|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1564963725p2/19425626.jpg] and Wednesday Books via Netgalley. This does not affect my opinion regarding the book.

I got an ARC of this book.
Welcome to the middle of the blog tour!
I was emailed by the publisher to check out this book. At first I was wary, I was offered a copy when I kept getting requests to read books that were so unappealing. I was worried this was just another book that glorified jealousy or was way out of my interest. I read a few lines of the description, maybe three. I saw the cover. Then decided that this at least looked like a book I could read most of.
Then I started the book. I read half of it before I looked up. I was hooked. This was an emotionally powerful book. It was complicated, it was complex, it was glorious. I didn’t read far enough in the description for the death or the possible love to exist, so they were surprising little details.
The book told the story of Amelia trying to survive in her new normal. She would have little flashes of memories of Jenna. She would try to do what she could do to survive, which she was barely doing since even reading wasn’t something she could handle any more. The raw emotion that I felt from her and the dead inside feelings at time were so well done. This book is very character driven and I fell in love with every character. All of the characters had depth. They weren’t just their role in the story, but also feelings and motivations that made sense. Think Nina LaCour level emotions, but the epilogue made me tear up which just made me mad.
That epilogue DESTROYED me. There were some details that just did way too much emotional destruction for me to say anything nice about it (outside of I was blown away by it and it was such a perfect ending for the book).
I needed all the details of everything. I want to read the Orman stories so badly now and I am not even a fan of classic fantasy. I need to know how the boys became friends. I need to know everything about Val. Who is the guy in the café? I NEED TO KNOW. I know there is a reason I can’t know, because this story is already pretty near perfect in scope. No detail was frivolous. Nothing was out of place. It flowed smoothly. I may want more, but in the way that I loved the story and didn’t want it to end, instead of I was left wanting.
I could go on all day about how much I enjoyed this book. How I stretched out the last 25% over a few days, just so I didn’t have to let the characters go yet. How there were times I snorted at the ridiculous inside jokes. Everything sucks, except this book.

DNF'd at 40 percent. Just couldn't connect with the characters. I didn't read it in long sittings, which could have added to that as well. Might try again later.

ONE OF MY FAVORITE BOOKS OF THIS MONTH! This book is about Amelia and Jenna who are both obsessed with the Orman Chronicles written by a young author. But during the summer, Jenna dies in a car crash and Amelia doesn’t know what to do but later on Amelia receives a copy of a rare edition of an Orman book and goes to see who sent it. The summary sounds great doesn’t it? The writing was beautiful and the plot was well structured. The pacing was also perfect for this book. The author did an amazing job with this novel!
I loved the characters in this book. Amelia has went through a lot from not having caring parents and her only best friend dying. It was enjoyable seeing her go on an adventure by herself and growing. I also loved Endsley and seeing his character development. Both characters went through so much and together they overcome their past. I also loved the supporting characters because they helped the main characters develop. I also LOVED the romance in this book!
This was such a great book and of course one of my favorite reads of this year. I’m really hoping book boxes decide to curate this book. It was so good and I totally recommend this book! Perfect for those who love contemporary reads and those who related to book worms!

“There’s nothing in the world a good book can’t cure.”
What an unexpected book. I started this, not knowing what to expect (and I didn't go back and read the synopsis) and I was drawn in from the start and had a hard time putting the book down. It was only when my eyes were drooping did I put the book down. Something woke me early this morning and so of course I picked up the book and finished reading it because I had to know how the book ended.
This book is heavier than what you might expect, it deals with death/dying, grief, and guilt. But it also has wonderment, friendship, and hope for the future.
I loved the friendship between Jenna and Amelia. While it might have seemed one sided, you could see how Jenna and her family cared about Amelia by taking her in and treating her like one of the family. However, part of that friendship did cause Amelia to feel like she had to do certain things because it was what Jenna wanted and because she died, Amelia feels obligated to keep those dreams alive. But at what cost? That is part of the journey for Amelia to discover her dreams and passions without Jenna.
I really enjoyed Amelia's trip to Michigan to discover where this book came from and who sent it to her. In her wildest dreams, she never expects to meet the author herself in this quaint little town. But he has some secrets of his own that keep him from living a full life. The interaction between these two is heart-wrenchingly good. (ok that is probably not a word but how I felt reading the book).
There are a few other characters (Alex and Val) that bring some levity to the story, but they are only looking out for Nolan. You can see the love for each other that has spanned many years.
These are a few of my favorite lines:
"What have you done with my devil-may-care friend?" I grin, "I canoodled him."
Jenna ordered informational pamphlets from the top three contenders on what I had come to call her College Deathmatch Spreadsheet.
This is beyond bizarre The mighty N.E. Endsley is showing me phone pictures? A fever dream, that's what this is. I'm dying and this is apparently all my brain can manage to give me in my final moments.
"You must choose, Amelia, what you want your life to be. Only you can provide the courage necessary to tirelessly pursue your choices, and therefore it must be you who decides the path before you."
"What I wrote made somebody light up from the inside and made her fearsome to behold without her having to move a muscle."
This book really spoke to my soul and we have to give it 5 paws ups.
